Australia is the place to be! Conchita Wurst and Måns Zelmerlöw, winners of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 and 2015 respectively, are both set to visit our overseas friends in Australia in 2016! Both artists are no strangers to the land down under — Conchita now returning for the third time within twelve months and Måns visiting after merely being a spectator at the Australian Open tennis tournament in 2015. So why are they back?
MÅNS ZELMERLÖW HITS THE COURT
Leading Australian newspaper The Herald Sun has confirmed that our favourite Swedish hero Måns Zelmerlöw will be performing his Eurovision 2015 winning entry “Heroes” on centre court at the Australian Open Grand Slam on Monday January 18.
This is the first time Måns will perform live in Australia, and as an avid tennis fan he is “incredibly excited to perform on the iconic Rod Laver Arena, home to so many great champions and matches.”
We’re confident that Måns will do a great job at se-deuce-ing the Australian audience and they will 40-love Måns’ performance. (Yes, the team at wiwibloggs.com now specialise in tennis puns. You’re welcome.)
CONCHITA CONFIRMED FOR SYDNEY MARDI GRAS
One of Australia’s largest LGBT news outlets, samsame.com.au has confirmed that Miss Conchita Wurst will be bringing her beard and lace front wig down under again to delight audiences at Sydney Mardi Gras in March!
Conchita will join Australian drag royalty and RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Courtney Act for a dazzling 1am special show for Sydney Mardi Gras 2016, to pay homage to the art of drag.
Details right now are a little hush-hush. Creative Director for the Sydney Mardi Gras, George Savoulis has confirmed however that the show is ought to be spectacular, and it’s planned to take place in the centre of the venue, so each patron can get a great vantage point of both of the queens. Yaass gawd.
@robyn gallagher Oh, I was really looking forward to some coverage of this as well, but where did it go? The opening for Roger Federer ofc but especially “Måns Zelmerlöw sings new tennis classics” (australian open tv).
Mans’ flight from Dubai to Melbourne was delayed for more than 4 hours. He is scheduled to arrive at half past 2AM Melbourne time on January 18th (16.00 hrs CET on Jan 17th). He was supposed to arrive at 9pm on January 17th. -,-
Hectic.
@lily – I would love to see them perform together.
He will also open for/ play with Guy Sebastian on the 25th
I really don’t like tennis, but I’ll definitely be tuning into the opening of the first night session just for Måns. In fact, i’ll probably end up being on ‘Måns watch’ for the whole 2 weeks of the Aust Open.
Looking forward to seeing Conchita in the Mardi Gras coverage too. Hopefully SBS will get her to do some of the parade commentary.
