Slowly but surely, the dribble of Eurovision 2016 song reveals is becoming a stream. One became two, two became three, but now three becomes five! Over the weekend, both Belarus and Malta selected their acts for next May’s contest. The former chose Ivan with “Help You Fly”, while the latter opted for Ira Losco with Chameleon. The pair of newcomers join the three other confirmed entries — Albania’s Eneda Tarifa with “Përrallë” (Fairtytale), Ireland’s Nicky Byrne with “Sunlight” and Belgium’s Laura Tesoro with “What’s The Pressure”.
In the past two weeks y’all have cast more than 2,800 votes in our weekly favourite act polls. Once again, it’s time to wipe the slate clean and ask you to choose your favourite Eurovision 2016 act so far. You can listen to the two new tracks and watch our video reactions below. Then vote in our poll. You can vote for as many contestants as you like, but you can only vote ONE time. Be sure to check the box next to every act you want to support before submitting your votes. Voting ends on Sunday 31 January — just ahead of the Spanish national final on 1 February. We will then relaunch the poll to include Edurne’s successor, along with any surprise entries that might drop in the interim.
Eurovision 2016: Our top five so far
Ira Losco “Chameleon”
On Saturday night, Ira Losco proved that she’s still got it. In December, the Eurovision 2002 runner-up set the hype-machine into overdrive when she entered not one, but two songs into the Maltese national selection. “That’s Why I Love You” fell by the wayside during Friday’s semifinal, allowing “Chameleon” to rise to the top. It was a close run race, and for a while it almost looked like Brooke’s “Golden” might snatch the win. However, Malta’s biggest popstar prevailed, scooping 40% of the televote on her way to victory. Fourteen years after “7th Wonder”, can she do one better and win the whole contest?
Ivan “Help You Fly”
It’s been a long journey, but Ivan is finally about to compete in an international song contest. The artist formerly known as Alexander Ivanov was supposed to represent Russia at a revived Intervision, however the contest never took place. No matter, Ivan will now sing “Help You Fly” for Belarus at Eurovision! He comfortably topped the country’s 100% televote selection, scoring an eye-watering 23,167 votes. By contrast, the 2015 televote winners scored 2,862 votes. The entry is already proving divisive, but the collective hair envy has had a unifying effect. Our Deban promises to ask him what products he uses.

Malta is so dull and boring. It’s heavily overrated. I absolutely don’t see the appeal at all. I mean, what’s the appeal of that song? I definitely do not see it at all.
The only song from this selection that will be in the Grand Final will be Ireland’s “Sunlight”. The rest will be forgotten the second the music stops.
@Farru: In addition, somehow I don’t think Ira will suffer too greatly if this campaign of hers fails. Chiara competed 3 times over a span of 11 years. Ira has not been anywhere near that contest, or MESC, in 14 years. Consider that Elisabeth Andreassen has been competing in Norway and Sweden for years since 1981, qualifying for ESC 4 times, winning in 1985 as one-half of Bobbysocks for Norway, and her reputation has not suffered, even after losing last year’s Norsk Melodi Grand Prix (duet with Tor Endresen).
@Farru: Leave no doubt, they will have a different–and more thorough–stage routine ready by May. The set and props not that relevant when you are trying to qualify for the bigger stage of Eurovision. Now that she has qualified, they will have to find a set director who can accentuate her stage performance with the appropriate set and graphic design. Whether she takes the stage alone (like Aram MP3), or has a band and backups with her, remains to be seen. To finish 2nd this time would be incredibly harder than it was in 2002. Back then, only 24 countries… Read more »
Leaving out Malta because I’m Maltese – but up to now: 1. Ireland – very relevant to 2016 – catchy but mildly cliche. 2. Belgium – good but has something missing which I can’t put my finger on 3. Belarus – grew on me after a few listens to it, but that’s not a good sign for Eurovision I guess. 4. Albania – Listened to it more than 20 times and still cannot recall how it even goes. Good orchestration but extremely bland and without a hint of a melody. With respect to Malta, I am hopeful that things will… Read more »

Belarus is the first interesting song this year, I like the wolfs in the background, the lights, everything is well produced, singing is also good.

Albania is the only song I actually really really like so far. It’s really dramatic and mysterious mainly due to the face I can’t understand what she’s singing about but all the other songs just don’t do it for me.
People were complaining yesterday about Ira but today they vote for her. My favorite is still Eneda, this is a song that’s good and since the 3 min limit, IT MUST go through a makeover, so the room of improvement it’s not just there, it’s 100% guaranteed. Ira is fine (she still need to work on her vocals and maybe a subtle change) Laura is growing fast on me, but still after 2 min the song decays. Nick is growing but VERY slowly, at least is decent (it’s very mainstream though) Ivan, his song it’s crap and his vocals aren’t… Read more »
I can understand there is not a winner song in this bunch, but, Ira Lowcost at first place? really? is that tacky and cheap the taste of the common eurofan?

Belgium and Belarus are the only two I like, and they still need some work. I’m indecisive about Albania, but it has potencial. Malta is just an absolute trainwreck of a song, “Sunlight” is basically “Only love survives” 2.0 and I cringe at the loverboy lyrics.
Anyway, we all know Ireland is gonna top these polls until may, the way Molly did las year.
1) Ireland- it may sounds boring after several times you listen to it, but it’s still a good song and the best so far 2) Albania- the current song itself is nothing special but Eneda’s voice manages to make it more listenable. I see a great potential on this one 3) Belgium- nothing special but the best among the left songs. Plus Laura is very natural and comfortable on the stage 4) Malta- super overrated. Ira is really good but the song is so lame and trivial. Sorry 5) Belarus- I’ve tried hard to like this song but it’s just… Read more »
