Back on February 19, BNT, Bulgaria’s state broadcaster, confirmed that their 2011 Eurovision entrant and 2015 Junior Eurovision host Poli Genova would return to the Eurovision stage in Stockholm. After weeks of teasing us, they have finally revealed that Poli will sing the song “If Love Was a Crime”.

Poli’s official website has said that “If Love Was a Crime” (#ILWAC) is a “truly international effort”, involving several composers and writers such as Borislav Milanov, Sebastian Arman and Joachim Bo Persson. They are all involved in a collaboration known as “Symphonics International” and have worked with some huge pop artists including Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson and Shakira. Wow!

Poli described the song in a statement on her website:

The song is powerful, engaging and casts the one and only universal message – love is above all other circumstances. Love is something we discover everywhere around us and it is a feeling that is an essential part of us. It brings us energy and faith. And we feel exactly the same way, because we know love is what makes us unstoppable. We want this message to reach everyone in this world.

While not made explicit, the song seems to have a pro-LGBT slant. “Unstoppable” surely hints at Conchita’s famous Eurovision winner’s speech, while “crime” may refer to the ongoing criminalisation of homosexuality in some parts of the world.

The European Broadcasting Union have confirmed that they have extended the deadline for the Bulgarian delegation to present their song and video, giving them until March 20. But until then we can bask in the glory of Poli’s Eurovision 2011 performance.

What are your expectations for the Bulgarian entry for Eurovision 2016? Let us know in the comments section below!

I got a feeling (oooh, whooo), that Bulgaria could win this.
Completely irrational and unexplainable of course, but genuine. I wonder what the betting odds are.

@MTD

I agree. I don’t care which nationality the composers are, I am tired of hearing only one language. It lacks diversity in the contest. Sad thing is that we have only two totally non-English songs out of 43 and the sadder thing is one of them (Bosnia) is pretty awful.

Just an idea, make a new rule for EBU: Same country can have no more than 3 consecutive songs in the same language. Make it general, although we all know that in practice only English will be somewhat reduced.

So, Swedishvision Song Contest?

OMG!

Now, I am more than supportive to the entries that don’t have SWEDEN in it!

And bonus points for the entries that will be sung in their language like Macedonia & Bosnia. OMG, they are the ONLY songs that will be completely non-English (without even a refrain in English). What the hell Eurovision???

Following the announcement that Bulgaria will present their entry as late as March 21 (how come so late?!), there is further news regarding other participating countries: * Israel has announced that they will make yet another two revamps of “Made of Stars” (a polka and a tango version); * Albania has announced that they will be making their best effort to remove whatever good thing may have been left in their new version of “Fairytale”. It is estimated that they will have it re-recorded without Eneda Tarifa, using a deaf-and-dumb octogenarian instead, and the stunning kerchief Eneda wore on the… Read more »

It is the premiere of the songs for Malta and Bulgaria that should be before the deadline really.

@Eugene

What do you mean, Iceland and Croatia? I hope you mean only videos, since songs are so amazing in this form and don’t need any changes.

I hope she qualifies this time. Na Inat showcased her strong vocals and her passion, and I hope this song does too.

Joacim Bo Persson is the correct name, at least so says wiki.
He is the composer, the others are just others.
Another Swedish entry. Luckily some countries sent real entries otherwise it would have been a mock competition.

Apparently Bulgaria, Malta, Croatia and Iceland have all been permitted by the EBU to release their song and video before Sunday 20th March!! All fun and games to be the last song……………..you have to smile!!

The EBU showing again it is one rule for one and another rule for another???

Obviously 10 months is not long enough to produce a video for Bulgaria.
