Lara Fabian and Jamala duet

We’ve seen plenty of post-Eurovision collaborations, but now we may have a duet to blow them all out of the water.

Lara Fabian, Luxembourg Eurovision representative turned global icon, is pushing for a collaboration with 2016 winner Jamala. And Jamala seems to be completely on board with the idea!

This potential collaboration started when Lara gave an interview to Ukraine’s Segodnya newspaper.

Lara first touched upon her Eurovision past, pointing out that it wasn’t necessarily a “quantum leap” in her career as she didn’t win. But the exposure and “love” from the audience did motivate her and encourage her to keep on pushing.

When it came to this year’s contest, Lara’s attention turned to Jamala. Calling her performance “perfect both artistically and emotionally”, Lara said she’d love to meet Jamala. She even did some networking with journalists, asking them to pass on her details directly to the “1944” singer. That is some forethought!

Lara even picked a time and a place for a duet: at the Eurovision 2017 grand final. Even though she wanted the contest to be held in Odessa, Lara seemed happy that Kyiv would host again, as it’s a “unique” city.

Lara also gave Jamala some options, saying that the duet could take place at one of her upcoming concerts in either Kyiv or Odessa — “wherever it will be most convenient” for Jamala, to be precise. We think she might have been thinking about this collaboration for a while, y’all.

Jamala then responded to the interview on her Instagram page. Jamala said: “Thank you @larafabianofficial! I would love to sing with you!”

Singer Lara Fabian gave an interview to the Ukrainian newspaper “Segonya” revealing that she would like to perform a duet with Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala at the Eurovision 2017 final in Kyiv. “I watched the Eurovision this year and performance of Jamala seemed stunning, perfect both artistically and emotionally. Her song, her voice, what she sang, – it’s all touched me a lot. I believe that with the story of her great-grandmother Jamala touched millions of people around the world, and made them to read more about history, Crimea Tatars and the Crimea. I would love to meet this remarkable singer. Can you pass to her that I would like to invite her to one of my concerts in Ukraine, either in Odessa or in Kyiv, where it will be more convenient for her. Now that Eurovision is in Kyiv I would love to come there as a guest. May be I will indeed come if I’m invited. I can, for instance, sing a duet with Jamala during the final. And believe me I would do so that it would be grandiose performance”, says Lara Fabian. Thank you @larafabianofficial !I would love to sing with you????????#ukraine #jamala #jamala1944

This sounds seriously exciting.

These two amazing vocalists getting together — even if only for one song — would surely be a must-see event. Judging by Jamala’s reaction, we might see this happen sooner rather than later.

For those who are concerned on this matter: Lara has met Celine a few times backstage in Québec, where Céline was born and where Lara actually really began her recording career. It all happened quite accidentally that both, who competed at Eurovision in 1988, would actually share stages and TV studios in Québec for performances and interviews … eventually they met every now and then with Céline telling Lara this one thing once “Même quand tu parles, ça sonne bien” (Even when you speak, it sounds good) quite a compliment to someone’s voice beyond the singing aspect of it. They… Read more »

I’m actually excited about this! Lara Fabian is the pride of Belgium and is an international superstar (very famous in Eastern Europe and former Soviet countries). With Jamala’s voice, their duet would sound amazing!

@Jonas:

Lara wrote a letter to Celine in 2008, saying that she loved her voice since she was 12 years old. And then at some point she met her “too briefly”. Maybe that’s a reference to the Eurovision? I guess you’re right, they must have met there and then didn’t see each other for years. It’s funny, however, thay both of them hesitate to mention Eurovision and treat it as some minor event in their careers…

Alenn, of course they knew that they performed on the same Eurovision. They were rehearsing and performing on the same stage all week, both in French, of similar ages…yes, they were aware of each other. How could they not be?

It’s interesting that Lara Fabian competed in Eurovision the same year when Celine Dion won, both of them unknown at the time, and after that, they both went on to become international superstars. Lara Fabian has often been compared to Celine Dion and I remember at some point they made a duet together. I was always wondering, did they know each other from Eurovision, or did they meet later, unaware that they had been on the same stage that 1988 night?

I was hoping for sax guy from Moldova 2010 as interval act, international stars … well … it’s not ESC style, in my opinion, when big names just want to revive their career.

those two vocalists are too professional to produce a flop together, so that’s definitely an event to look forward to!

Eh. I was expecting another global star to be the interval act, such as Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, or Katy Perry.????
