It’s the long-awaited entry from the Junior Eurovision 2016 host country. Now Malta‘s broadcaster PBS has finally released their song “Parachute”, performed by the young diva Christina Magrin.
Back in July, Christina won the Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest national final, after slaying the pack with her power vocals. The national final only selected the performer, with the song written especially as Christina’s JESC entry.
“Parachute” was composed by Kosivar Florent Boshnajku with lyrics by Matt “Muxu” Mercieca. Muxu has co-written all of Malta’s JESC entries since their 2013 comeback, including their two winning entries “The Start” and “Not My Soul”.
“Parachute”, which premiered this evening on Maltese television, has been written for Christina Magrin’s power vocals – and it shows.
Within seconds of the song starting, Christina belts out a big, strong opening note, before switching down into more delicate tones. “Parachute” is a modern pop song, combining orchestral flourishes with tropical house electronic styles. Like Malta, it’s combining the classical with a sunny tropical feeling.
The song is about the strength of friendship, described as being a “message of courage for youths who are passing through difficult times.”
The video was shot in Malta, filmed almost entirely in one take. Christina and her friends skip through the city streets, bringing brightness and cheer to even dingy back alleys.
Christina Magrin – “Parachute” (lyrics)
I-I-I-I-I’ll keep chasing rainbows
Searching through the skies for the pot of gold
Remember there’s no limit
No end and no beginning
Living for the moments
And all the happy times that we share
We’ll make it through the storm
Like fire when it’s cold
That’s what friends are for, after all
When times seem to get hard
I’ll never let you down
I’ll be your parachute
Yeah, I’ll take care of you
Until you reach the ground
Till you are safe and sound
I’ll be your parachute
Yeah, I’ll be there for you
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
P-P-P-Parachute
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
We can last forever
But then again, forever’s never enough
Light the sky on fire
We’ll keep on going higher
We’ll be making memories
And we won’t have a minute to spare
We’ll keep moving on
Together we are strong
That’s for friends are for, after all
When times seem to get hard
I’ll never let you down
I’ll be your parachute
Yeah, I’ll take care of you
Until you reach the ground
Till you are safe and sound
I’ll be your parachute
Yeah, I’ll be there for you
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
P-P-P-Parachute
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Let’s jump and dive and fly into the sky
We’ll ignite the night
Like spotlights we will shine
Just like stars, a million lights
Hold tight, oh hold
P-P-P-Parachute
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh parachute
she screams!
@ Dave Jones: “thrash the other contenders”? What an appropriate expression… Are you talking about kid’s song competition or a boxing match? By the way, most of the kids have amazing vocals as well. They all come with a track record of extensive experience and geeat performances. I have also seen very good singers strain or even blunder with difficult songs, while another contender with a more simple song can exude confidence and stage presence and actually win… Malta is of course very well positioned to score high also politically due to its connections with the selection process by other… Read more »
Awesome song that is of a higher level than jesc. With her strong vocals Christina can thrash the other contenders easily.
THIS IS SO SO GOOD!
Too many unnecassary higher notes. Its like – “look at me, I have powerful voice”
It is fairly modern, catchy and jury and kid friendly but what came across at the end is:
Jack of all trades Master of none :/
If she can pull off the vocals then she is a contender
Good beat, and jury friendly.
I don’t like her voice at all. Her vocals are quite annoying. Its not pleasant to listen to. Too shouty.
Song at least is a bit current but bland at the same time.
This song starts of amazing, but the chorus is a little anoying. She has very powerfull vocals tho, and live would be impressive. Last year was better tho…
Very weak, total disappointment :/
Hmm… In guess it’s too cheaply produced for my taste, and the chorus is weak af, but I’m sure they’ll make a great performance out of it. My faves remain Poland and Italy.
Warning:
The stuborn and single minded personality traits of @beccaboo1212 comment will drive you crazy.
There’s people behind the screens, Becca. Don’t type it if you wouldn’t say it to my face.
Assuming the live performance is as good as the studio version, this is a contender for the trophy. The song has appeal beyond JESC and should do well on YouTube. Malta definitely has a very strong team of song writers. Top 5 in any case. And going back to the controversy if there are too many girls at JESC, this song is a proof that a girl with the right song and vocals is the right choice.
Very strong competition this year….
She’s a very good singer and the song is nice but the chorus is annoying af and too shouty at times
WARNING: The stupidity of Daniel’s comment will drive you crazy! 🙁
WOW Malta ! I think this is very modern 🙂 She can definitely belt the live vocals.
What vocals!! This is crazy difficult can she actually pull this off live?! I love the fact that despite her having this vocal ability they did not go for a power ballad. Catchy and fun.
The song is nice but the refrain is sooooooooooo bad 😮
Ben Camille & Valerie Vella will host JESC 2016! ?
How fun 🙂
Powerful vocals! I wonder what the staging will be like.
And Greta Salóme supports Vasilije’s Perfume. See on his channel Robyn, I couldn’t believe with my eyes ????????????
It’s really cool! It’s not another ballad, it’s very childfriendly and quite modern. She can also show off her vocals in this song, so it gets definitely one of the top places for me.
Ugh. Cheesy, shouty and screamy. It’s good for littke kids I suppose but as a young teen, I’m not a fan. My 10th.
