Dansk Melodi Grand Prix william deban reaction eurovision 2017

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017 — Denmark’s search for an act that can un-do its boy band curse at Eurovision — takes place on Saturday, February 25. And as ever wiwibloggers William and Deban met up for a gossip and a bitch — and to listen to this year’s competing entries while in front of a camera.

As many of you have already pointed out on YouTube, we do not include the actual songs in our video. That’s because the Danish record labels have a well-known habit of blocking your video if it contains even a few seconds of their tracks. So, unfortunately, you’ll have to press play on Spotify or YouTube or the DMGP web site to familiarise yourself with the songs.

Also note: At the time of filming we only had access to the 30-second snippets, as the songs were blocked on Spotify and the official DR web site had not yet uploaded them. These videos take time to edit and, given everyone’s work schedule, we just had to film it when we could.

Sada Vidoo is a landslide winner for me. The song sound unique and fits her unique style. She’s not just another woman singing a ballad. She’s a ‘living doll’ giving us an atmospheric pop number so fitted for Nordics. Denmark should be back in the grand final in no-time if they pick Sada. Anja’s song is very nice too, but I am afraid she would get lost among all the female-sung ballads. I really like Calling Mercury’s song too. I like the contrast between such innocent melody and manipulative lyrics. I usually really find songs with hashtags and acronyms in… Read more »

You can listen to the full songs on the DR website, but my reactions are still pretty much the same as William and Deban. A lot of them seem to suffer from ‘missing chorus syndrome’ – including Sada Vidoo, who is still my favourite of the bunch.

I personally like Anja Nissen’s song the most. The staging just needs to be better than last year’s which was a hot mess tbh my 2nd pick is Ida Una

Thanks Kris! 🙂 I enjoyed listening to some of the songs. It turns out that this is a “ten degrees of dance pop” selection, with a few indulgences. Where to start… Sada Vidoo stands out. Her voice is sweet, but the song has quite a slow tempo compared to the rest of the selection. Should it win?: No. Will it in?: Probably. Sada Vidoo has a following that could see her win anyhow, rightly or wrongly. Ida Una – Normally I don’t like these kind of generic recycled chord-driven songs with earworms for hooks. (Especially considering that last year’s Danish… Read more »

If any of these songs were in some tiny Eastern country’s national final people would be calling it a possible Eurovision winner.

Denmark’s briadcaster has been blocking us in UK. Very bad form. I think I only managed to hear two songs before everything was taken down. I stick my finger up in protest. 🙁
