At Eurovision 2017, Portugal’s Salvador Sobral proved that the quietest song can resonate the loudest. “Amar pelos dois” didn’t feature a shrieking bridge or a pyro rain shower, but it did win over both the jury and televoters, largely because Salvador seemed to sing from the heart. Plenty of other acts left an impression too with some killer choruses and memorable staging. From SunStroke Project’s synchronised footwork to Kristian Kostov‘s monochrome dreamscape to Francesco Gabbani’s dancing gorilla, a lot of these acts are lodged in our memory.
And then there are the others. As we scroll through the list of Eurovision 2017 songs, some are a bit harder to conjure up. Fusedmarc’s “Rain of Revolution”, Levina’s “Perfect Life”, O.Torvald’s “Time” — try recalling all of the lyrics verbatim right now. Told you so.
wiwibloggers William and Deban wanted to test how many of the lyrics and melodies they could remember while under pressure, and you can see the results in the video above. It ain’t always pretty! Bright studio lights, a camera and no time to practice tends to have that effect.
Apologies for the large black blobs that frequently appear on William’s face. We were having lighting issues which made him extra pale and that led to editing difficulties. He needs to work on his tan, clearly!
Which songs do you struggle to remember? Give it a go and then vote in our poll below. You can vote for as many songs as you like, but you can only vote one time.

Must have forgotten to close this poll!
I’d say it’s either “Dying To Try” (Ireland) or “Perfect Life” (Germany). They are way too anonymous.
I just said My Turn and My Friend. They’re just not good or memorable and not on my play list XD
I think it is strange that anyone would find it difficult to remember Occidentali’s Karma – surely one of the more memorable songs this year. I think some voters may be using the opportunity to vote for songs they don’t like as opposed to don’t remember!
Well for Non-speakers a song in a different language might not be the easiest to remember.
Being the father of a pretty much Eurovision-crazy family, there’s hardly a day going by without listening to this years songs. So i’ll probably never forget (what i did what i said), but the hardest for me to learn were Denmark (even though i kinda had a crush on Anja) and obviously our very own german entry, which didn’t even have a true chorus. I also used to have problems with “I Feel Alive” until William and Deban bellowed it so charmingly into my ears at the end of that wonderful interview with IMRI. Thank you very much!
Nice family! 🙂
Bulgaria, Ireland, San Marino and Slovenia. Can’t recall much from these.
A lot easier it is to list those that are easiest to remember. But if I had to list those I have forgotten about, I’d say CRO, CZE, GEO, ISR, LAT, LTU, MNE, POL, RUS, SRB and UK are the ones I struggle the most to remember. Some of the worst entries this year are not that easy to forget. The entries that I believe got thrown under the bus are all-too-easy for me to remember, and one that I believe threw itself under the bus (MKD; blame the stage director), I won’t forget anytime soon, thanks to that outstanding… Read more »
I find hard to recall: Malta, Portgual, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, Poland, Russia, Spain, Georgia, San Marino
I find easy to recall: Belgium, Bulgaria, Ireland, France, Iceland, Serbia, FYR Macedonia, Moldova, Finland, Latvia
Portugal is easily the most forgettable one for me.
Also, Lithuania is surprisingly memorable to me, it has a nice hook.
Sorry but it has to be said: The one I struggle with most is Portugal. Don’t remember the title, the lyrics or the song. Seems the hype for it was only during the show, not after it.
Also struggle with Lithuania, is that even a song? Only remember “yeah yeah yeah”
On the other hand I remember Italy- Sing that all the time, and I don’t even speak Italian.
Also add Romania, Moldova and Croatia to that list. How can you forget the man who sings duets with himself?
portugal is the most forgettable and also it’s the worst winner ever
All Eurovision winners since 1956 are the worst winners ever.
Esa es tu opinion, la mia es la contraria
How can people manage to forget the winner?
To be honest… It easily puts me to sleep (sorry, but the song is really really calm)
That is actually quite funny, because many people say that, but meaning it in a good sense, especially people with sleeping problems. Salvador’s reaction was that saying thatbthe song make people with sleeping problems sleep is the biggest complement one can make to a song. And I agree
So basically Moldova has the song everyone easily remembers, cool! On the opposite, judging by the same poll results, Malta’s song is the one people struggle to remember. I honestly expected Lithuania’s song, it was a really messy song, hard to listen and to comprehend. The rest of the songs I find easy to remember… My top 3, struggle to remember: 1. Lithuania (I honestly can’t listen to that song, it’s an atrocity and those lyrics….) 2. Portugal (I can’t sing it, I can’t pronounce the words, I can’t remember the lyrics) 3. Russia (maybe because I didn’t listen to… Read more »
For me top 5, struggle to remember:
1. Malta
2. San Marino
3. Russia
4. Ukraine
5. Czech Republic
My top 5, easy to remember:
1. Switzerland (It was my 11th this year, but it’s so many times in my head! <3)
2. The Netherlands (I WILL NEVER FORGET OUR ENTRY IN 2017 <3 <3)
3. Belgium (Our amazing neighbours!!)
4. United Kingdom (How can I forget my winner from this year?!)
5. Latvia and Lithuania (Not one of my favourites, but it's still in my head..)
Francesco Gabbani said that Occidentali’s Karma has got two types of listeners:Those who understand and those for whom it is dedicated.
Dear William and Wiwibloggs team, the european audience has got a wider culture of music than you imagine and perhaps also wider than you yourselves. For a long time they have understood words and appreciated the “cutchy” type of music of Occidentali’s Karma. They will remember and appreciate Occidentali’s Karma exactly for this and not for the Gorilla.
The Gorilla is still impressing only you- it seems.
Italy, Slovenia, Poland and Bulgaria.
Albania by far the least memorable.
People just don’t loose one opportunity to belittle Portugal’s victory… you either like it or you don’t, but saying that you have a hard time remember the victor doesn’t seem credible, sorry guys
Just ignore them. They probably don’t remember because boycotted the winner since they wanted someone else to win.
The Eurofan community is very childish sometimes.
they’re all gonna watch next years esc, so who cares really. they’re butthurt. I’d laugh if Portugal could ban them.
Oh yeah. I sure do, especially because they seem to come from the same person with many nicknames
Amar Pelos Dois is not a catchy song for their ears. This song needs to be heard more than once ofc. It’s a pure song!
I’m listening this song since I listened for the first time ^^
No one say they have hard time remembering Victor. If you see Wiwibloggs’ video you realise it’s very easy to remember Victor because everyone has vomit motion at least once in their life.
The poll is about remembering song. Amar piles dos is difficult and rythmless(jazz) so it hard to remember.
Sorry but I struggle to understand your comment… So is it memorable because it causes vomit or is it forgettable because it is jazzy? Either it is memorable or forgettable, I would say. But I am just a poor soul that cannot understand so complex concepts…
Lol. Now I understand your comment in the other page.
I think @Polska is saying Salvador will be remembered because of his quirks which in the recap video seems like someone vomiting.
Amar Pelos Dois is difficult to sing and remember. And frankly a poorly sustainable song.
Lol. Well… if that is the case then there are many bulimic people outhere, that have voted for him…
Based on Poll results so far:
The least memorable of the qualifiers seems to be Portugal. ( Hype can do wonders during the contest not after it).
The most memorable of the non-qualifiers seems to be Macedonia. The song was great the live vocals were lacking though.
There was no hype. And he’s still memorable. Just the fact that you think Macedonias song was memorable says it all really.
I didn’t say anything….I wrote the highest qualifier in the poll and the lowest non-qualifier in the poll.
Yeah….he is memorable….His song is not.
There is no point in argument. Let the poll speak for itself.
See the jury votes countries from Semi-1 and then see the votes from the same jurors in the final!! At least 10 jurors increased Portugal’s placing in their ranking by 6 places …… Portugal entered the charts in many countries and failed to stay even for 3 days……. This is what I mean by hype. You can choose to ignore the facts and turn a blind eye. But do not go about speaking the opposite of what can be objectively proven and criticizing those who point it out. It’s obvious the song has its fans but it will have its… Read more »
so for you should happenned like 2008…Portugal 2nd on semi final and 13th in the final..no hype no votes.
Votes can be won due to song even without hype. I didn’t watch 2008 contest but people vote for songs even without hype…..Take Moldova for example.
Only Slovenia and Portugal, the others are quite memorable.
Nah, Portugal is still memorable, specially the performance.
Czech Republic, Russia and Malta. There’s a few I wish I could forget though like Sweden, Italy and Portugal
I couldn’t remember only a few songs (yay me!…) but those I didn’t are a mixed bunch: Albania, Armenia, Ireland, Norway, Poland and Romania and yet I voted for Poland AND Ireland (and Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czechia, Finland, Georgia, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, Ukraine and the wish I could have voted for the best of the lot the UK – best once Finland was eliminated.). I hate Moldova’s entry and Sweden’s but can’t get them out of my mind at odd times. Weird. I had no problems with the non-English ones(loved Hungary, Italy and Portugal, hated Spain… Read more »
Romania, Portugal and Italy
Nice video guys! For me the most difficult to remember are Croatia, Iceland (i only remember paaapeeer), The Netherlands, Slovenia and Ukraine.
I find Norway’s “Grab the Moment” hard to remember, particularly the verses because they’re basically in spoken word form so you really have to speak fast which I absolutely couldn’t do.
I was tooooongue-tied.
None, I really cannot understand those who forget the songs, I remember them all.
Another video from you guys! Yeeeesssss!!! It’s so funny, I smile the whole time of this video! I really appreciate you try to sing even the songs in other languages (Hungary, Italy, Portugal). You did pretty well at French however! (especially Deban). And even if you can’t say the actual lyrics, you still remember parts of the performance, so it counts. Deban killed it in “Paper”! Also, nice try William in “Where I am”. It’s hard. I also noticed you sang probably half the song in Ireland and UK. Definitely in ireland, William is like “Ok, that voice, I can’t… Read more »
This year I struggle a lot more than usual. So many beige and uncatchy songs.
The only one I struggled with was Albania’s. A pretty good year I think.
I have a lot of trouble remembering the entries of Lithuania (besides YEAH-YEAH-YEAH), Ukraine and Czechia. ??
Oh, and Ireland, lmao
Dying to Try was my the first one this year. In 2016 it was Soldiers of Love.
Wow, this comment is so sad. You seem very butthurt over people not liking a certain song – me included, I hated the Ukrainian entry this year. By the way, the Eurovision fandom has always been diverse and colorful. How would we make it “straight”? Drink beer while listening to the countries presenting 50 shades of Nickelback? Hell no. ?
Is it bad that I literally know the lyrics to ALL of these songs??
SAME!! :)))))
EXACTLY!
Me too:)
I’ve forgotten actual lyrics of many songs but I remember the misheard lyrics of all. 😛
It has been revealed that the line-up for JESC 2017 isn’t decided, Bulgaria and a couple of other countries still haven’t decided. I was very surprised to see the list revealed so early tbh.
