depi evratesil 2018 asmik armenia

As Depi Evratestil 2018 reveal week continues, we now get to hear the next five songs. Armenia’s 1TV have wasted no time in releasing the next group of competing songs!

Today’s group includes two alums from Depi Evratesil 2017. Artsvik and Gevorg Harutyunyan are both back and ready for more. There’s plenty of other Armenian talent in the line-up, including an X Factor star.

Arman Mesropyan — “What You Hide”

26 year old Arman’s biggest moment in his career so far has been his participation in the 2017 Slavianski Bazaar contest. Amongst those he competed against were Croatia’s 2016 act, Nina Kraljic, as well as Nevena Bozovic of Moje 3.

Unfortunately, Arman didn’t make the final of that contest, but he’ll no doubt be using that experience at Depi Evratesil. He’s also featured on the song “Menakhosutyun” alongside Rob Avalyan.

Asmik Shiroyan — “You & I”

Asmik makes her return to Depi Evratesil, after impressing as part of Iveta Mukuchyan’s team. She ultimately left the competition last year at the “One of Two” battle stage, but is back for more in the new 2018 format.

Her songwriting team for “You & I” have been responsible for some major international hits. They include James Arthur’s “Say You Won’t Let Go”, and Kygo’s “Stole the Show”. Will “You & I” make it worldwide too?

Gevorg Harutyunyan — “Stand Up”

Another alumni of last year’s Depi Evratesil, Gevorg was part of Inga’s team. He too went out during the “One of Two” stage, losing to eventual 3rd place finisher, Syuzanna Melqonyan. He also finished 5th in the 2013 series of X Factor Armenia.

Gevorg isn’t just a talented singer, though. He was the winner of the fourth season of Parahandes, the Armenian version of the Dancing with the Stars franchise.

Mger Armenia — “Forever”

Mger Armenia is the stage name of Mher Mesropyan, one of the most decorated singers in Armenia today. In 2013, Mger won Male Singer of the Year at the Armenian Music Awards. Just last year, he was awarded the title of “Honored Artist of Armenia” by Armenian President, Serzh Sargsyan.

Mger participated in Armenia’s 2009 selection with “My Heart, My Soul”. He finished second overall, just behind Inga & Anush but ahead of the likes of Dorians.

Zhanna Davtyan — “Unbreakable”

Zhanna made her name in the 2014 edition of X Factor Armenia. Mentored by Armenia’s 2011 representative, Emmy, she finished 4th and the highest placed singer in the “Girls” category.

She released her single “Smile” in 2016, but she’s been otherwise quiet on the music scene. Depi Evratesil marks her return with the song “Unbreakable”.

Just five more songs left to go now. Do you think that we’ve already heard a definite winner of Depi Evratesil? Shout out all your thoughts and who’s your favourite in the comments section below.

Asmik’s song is pretty much Little Mix’s Black magic but I love both so i’m fine with that

Asmik is very formulaic, but still good.

So far the best songs would be hers, Tamar’s, and Kamil’s I guess. Could argue Sevak over Kamil since Kamil is a joke, but I still think it’s better…

Who in Armenia is selection one average song after the other? I mean, I’m thankful that so far the only dreadful song is “Puerto Rico”, but come on! Sevak and Gevorg are the only two so far with decent songs, the others are unbearable and boring. The same cheap formula, non-amusing duduks (when the duduk is supposed to be emotional in nature) and poor lyrical content.
Honestly, I can see Armenia being left behind in the semis unless something urgent is done about this disappointing bag of entries.

Asmik’s song is definitely the best one out of these 5. Tamar’s song however is still my fave, it will stand out more during the contest. Asmik’s song is my 2nd fave though!

So far Im finding the selection Mediocre… you and I is alright but forgettable in my opinion. Don’t think Armenia will win but they’ll qualify. But never say never the last 5 songs might sway me… but an eesti laul song is winning for me.

You&I is a world-class hit song def. Asmik sounds so confident. Considering that there are not strong vocalists & songs, she can easel win.

Asmik killed everyone with this song and her vocals <3 all the boring ballads or some copy paste s from previous year's participants. So happy that finally we have a winning song. Consider the ticket to Lisbon is already in her pocket. Surely she will rock the staging.

As always armenians are going to create hype around their own entries. The same thing every single year. But guys, as we saw from last year your overreaction DOES NOT affect the result of the show. There’s nothing special about Asmik’s song, it sounds like a MF reject and I understand why. The only likeable entry is “Qami” bcuz it at least feels special and remarkable. The others are either old-fashioned or cheap or too pretentious to sound like somebody else. Things doesn’t look good for Armenia this year. But of course, there are five more songs left. Let’s wait.

It will be a shame if Armenia and Romania will qualify over some countries without the sash factor this year. Both selections are very, very weak.Same goes for baltic nations, but they struggle to qualify anyway. I am keeping fingers crossed for some other nations like Finland, Czech Republic and even San Marino who are upping their game.

Again I’m not impressed by any of these songs. Armenia, what are you thinking? I was hoping for a hit from Asmik, but it’s crearly not “You & I” sounds dated and cheesy. At least, it’s uplifting.

Depi Evratesil is going to be really boring. I will wait if I like any of the last 5 songs, but I would have preferred an internal selection. It has worked well for Armenia all these years.

I like Asmik’s song from this bunch. As of now there are 5 solid choices for Armenia:

1. Amalya – Waiting for the Sun
2. Tamar Kaprelian – Poison (Ari-Ari)
3. Asmik – You and I
4. Kamil – Puerto Rico
5. Sevak – Qamia

To be 100% honest, I know Puerto Rico is a a joke act but it’s so good I’ve listened to it like 10 times yesterday. It could do really well and show a different side of Armenia in the contest.

Generally, I really like the traditional element and the Armenia sound in some songs.

Does “Stand up” remind you of “Rise like a phoenix”, or is it only me? It’s powerful, no doubt and I like the instrumentation.

The good surprise here is Asmik’s “You and I”. I liked the song since the first 5-10 seconds. You instantly like this and it’s perfect for the Eurovision stage. However, I need to see this live, because if the live performance isn’t great, there will be a problem. Great job though! “You and I” my favourite so far!

IM SORRY, I DONT KNOW ON WHAT KIND OF DRUGS YOU GUYS ARE….TAMAR IS CLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEARLY THE BEST CHOICE. AND IM NOT EVEN CONCERNING MARKETABILITY, SONG-SINGER-CONNECTION, INTERNATIONAL-ARMENIAN, GREAT LOOKS, PERFECT IN PR, INTERVIEWS – TAMAR IS THE WHOOOOOOLE PACKAGE, COUNTRIES WOULD KILL TO HAVE SOMEONE LIKE HER TO REPRESENT THEM. DONT LET yOURSELVES DOWN ARMENIANS, GRAB THIS OPPORTUNITY

Mher Armenia’s song – is utter trash Hasmik Shiroyan’s song is harmless hit from 90s, her voice is nice, could win Depi Evratesil but I’m not sure about Eurovision! And pitty that authors are foreigners . Gevorg Harutunyan – his song has very nice indtrumental arrangement but…… in some parts folk indtruments are useless and artificiall and I think a simple song like “Lost in you” would suit Gevorg’s voice more! Zhanna – nice song but overall this act itself is a participation for participation Arman Mesropyan – the same opinion as for Zhanna . Surely song would sound better… Read more »

Hmm….its a good song though. It all depends on her live vibe. Tamar has got competition and she’s a native Armenian. Some Armenians might not want to vote for Tamar…..she has accumulated quite a lot of dislikes.

I’ve listened to Asmik’s song five times so far. I enjoy it while I’m listening to it but as soon as it stops, I can’t remember anything about it.

I love Asmik, but to be completely honest, her song left me a little bit disappointed. It was well produced and catchy, but slightly too generic and it wouldn’t stand out at Eurovision. It just screams Denmark 2017 to me. I think Tamar or Kamil are the best bets as of now; both have interesting melodies and many memorable elements.

The instrumentation in Asmik’s song is so disappointing. Wasting her effort. I am old enough to remember the early 90’s when this type of song and vocal style actually had some chart success. I would be surprised if this worked well in Lisbon.

I like this song. We could have a breed song tomorrow when Gata Bend’s song gets its turn of release. They are very good, too. They eve opened the show of the public TV at New Year’s night which is really huge. Take a watch at their videos before the song is released. So far, Hasmik and Tamar are my winners. Sevak, Kamil and Nemra are runner-up. I think we might have one more strong contender for the trophy tomorrow. Let’s wait and see. My vote still goes to Tamar for herbauthentic and original entry.
