The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — continues to review the six acts competing in Czechia’s national final Eurovision Song CZ. Finally we get to former Pop Idol star Debbi and her song “High on Love”. Were we feeling her rush? Read on to find out!
Debbi – “High on Love”
“High on Love” reviews
Deban: A lyrically heavy pop-rock number with a mildly interesting pre-chorus. Had this track been served with a sparser lyrical arrangement, it would have had a much stronger impact. As it stands, it lacks emotion and needs a better structure.
Score: 5/10
Jonathan: I’m “High on Love” with this song! This is such a refreshing listen compared to the boundless ballads and electronic/pop songs we otherwise hear during national-final season. In a similar way to why Delta Goodrem won wiwivision 2016, this style of song can appeal to the masses, with viewers young and old able to connect and jam out to it. Although there’s another big favourite in this selection, I’d love to see Debbi represent the Czech Republic sometime soon with something similar or even better.
Score: 8.5/10
Mikhail: This song is simply joyful. It makes me happy and nothing else is needed. I especially like the bridge — “you-u are my sanity…” — something just clicks there. I’m sure that people watching it for the first time will also be humming along as I do, so it would be a great choice.
Score: 8/10
Natalie: This is a little diamond. Right from the first note, this song has true good energy. I love the acoustic elements thrown in here too. It makes the whole thing feel very vibrant and powerful while still being grounded. It’s so sweet and rustic, I love it. I think the Czech could do really well with this song.
Score: 8/10
Robyn: “High on Love” is a bit ’90s, especially in the verses — but in a good way. And once that big, loved-up, glorious chorus hits, all is forgiven. If Czechia just wants to get into the grand final, this song would do the trick — provided it has some equally glorious staging. It’s bold and it’s beautiful.
Score: 8.5/10
Sebastian: An incredibly polished and well-produced track, “High On Love” would suit fittingly on a movie or television soundtrack (a la Sex and the City). It feels like it’s designed to be an underrated track, giving off Laura Tesoro’s “What’s the Pressure” vibes. Most importantly, this means it could be a surprise package when it counts – at the national final. But staging and stage presence will be key.

I like this one. I like the music and the voice. However, I prefer “Lie to me ” and “Fly” more.
6.5/10
woah
Ugh… overrated.
If it weren’t for Mikolas, this would be my clear favorite in the Czech NF. This is groofy, smooth, catchy and wonderfull. I love, love, love it! If they want to qualify and finish top 20, they should pick this. If they want to be risky and finish top 10, OR not even qualify, they should go for Mikolas.
8,5/10
7.36? It sounds like an Ashlee Simpson demo from 2005. Noisy and weak on drums.
It’s my 3rd in the Czech Selection, which doesn’t mean I don’t like it! It’s still a good song, but Eva and Mikolas are hard to beat. 7.25/10
I like this one. So full of fun and has dynamism throughout the verses. Probably my favorite in ESCZ but there is no doubt her performance can’t be as appealing as Lie to me has potential to be.
A 7/10
ella henderson top 40 material
One of my favourite songs from NF season. Every part of the song is done well and I would love to see how this works on stage. It sounds confident and powerful. Definitely not background music!
