From Agoney to War, Spain’s quest to find a Eurovision song for Lisbon has been a long and often confusing journey. But it finally comes to an end tonight.
In just a few hours we will know who will represent Spain at Eurovision 2018 in Portugal. The winner will be chosen during Operación Trunfo’s Eurovision Gala, with all the action kicking off at 22.30 CET. But who are the contenders?
Since Friday, we’ve been asking y’all to vote for your favourites in our poll. After counting a massive 6,1252 votes, we can now reveal the act you want to represent España.
Topping the poll with a landslide of 2,580 votes (42.12% of all votes cast), Alfred & Amaia with “Tu canción” is clearly the readers’ choice. Drawing inspiration from the pair’s La La Land performance earlier on in OT’s run, the dreamy love song has almost everyone under its spell.
Coming a distant second is another duet. Aitana & Ana Guerra’s on-trend Latin flavoured bop “Lo malo” garnered 1,087 votes (17.75% of all votes cast).
Only one other song managed to enter four digits in the voting. Finishing just over 40 votes behind the runner-up spot is Aitana again, this time with “Arde”. She’s the highest ranked solo effort, picking up 1,043 votes or 17.03% of all votes cast.
Of the remaining pack, Amaia’s “Al cantar” is next with just 341 votes.
The group number “Camina” finishes a distant ninth with just 122 votes, less than 2% of all votes cast.

Can Alfred & Amaia win the whole thing? Will Aitana and Ana Guerra slay the competition? Or could the others prove to be dark horses and surprise us all? Let us know below.
After relistening and watching the love rehearsals, I think Arde would be the safest option. La Malo needs a bit more work for the singers to get comfortable on stage while Tu cancion is a very big risk and would require more work for the two young singers.
If ‘Tu canción’ wins, Spain is already my winner… No hate, but for me it’s even better than Amar pelos dois.
Good luck Spain! 🙂
Just saw Tu Canción, it was beautiful. Not it-will-win-Eurovision kind of beautiful, but like maybe 15th place.
Please Spain don’t choose Tu canción. It’s so boring. You’ll be lucky to get top 20 with it.
I’m not a fan of any of the spanish songs – sorry. Only two of them kinda got my interest: Lo malo and El remedio. Others range from decent to uninteresting. Tu canción sounds too boring for me.
Arde from Aitana. She’s lovely and her tone is just beautiful. Lo malo is good too.
That top 3 is right, it has to be one of those songs. I’m leaning a bit more towards Arde, it’s the most distinct one.
I’m not spanish and I voted for Tu Cancion. It’s just a lovely and endearing song. I hope it wins later. I imagine if they stage this right Tu Cancion could do well in Lisbon.
Having said that, I’ll add that I think that “Al cantar” is the best choice, although “Tu canción” is great too. All in all, the best preselection for a long time, together with France. Good luck, Spain!
I initially liked “Lo Malo” but now that I listen to it, besides Ana’s “mal” vocals, the instrumental is totally ripped off of 3 A.M. by Jesse y Joy…
Lol sure pal, sure. And Tu cancion instrumental is a ripped off of Amar pelos dois.
Just no. Ugh
Sería una pavada. Lo malo>>>
Yup. If they want Spain to end up bottom 5, send Tu cancion.
Watch them think they’ll be top ten while everyone else tells them they’re gonna flop, like it happened in 2015 and 2016.
Watch them flop while everyone else tells them they’re gonna reach top 5, like it happened with Ruth and Pastora.
I’d rather come from a country that contributes a great song each year than from one that has a top-10 placing each year. Why is everyone so obsessed with the outcome of some far-from-perfect vote?
Hear hear! Be happy with what you send. That’s what matters. (Personally speaking, two countries I’ve never been nuts about but still admire a lot are Moldova and Latvia, because they genuinely feel like they’re there just to have fun and make music and don’t care as much about the competitive aspect).
Preach Joe! Preach!
You’re position shouldn’t matter. Some countries will always do better than others. Just be proud of the song that represents your nation!
Sadly, Spain has neither top tens nor good songs every year.
Subjective.
The positions may be a fact, but the song’s quality is your opinion. Sure, you may not be a fan of everything they send (honestly, Do It for Your Lover wasn’t a favorite of mine either, although nothing indicated it’d tank like it did live), but as long as the home country is bumping to it, they’re happy and invested and enjoying the contest. Before the juries or voters, the opinion that matters most to me is that of the home team. If they finish high, all the better. A good example of this would be “Never Give Up on… Read more »
