Based in Germany but raised in America, pop star Jimmie Wilson showed us the spirit of his night back in Kyiv, teaming up with Eurovision fan favourite Valentina Monetta to represent San Marino. Since then he’s released his LP “So Damn Beautiful” — it’s rul pretty — and fronted an Audi A5 car campaign. The man is on the road and moving forward.

And recently Mr Wilson — who hails from Detroit — teamed up with German DJ FXMO to release their first dance-pop collaboration “Taxi Ride”.

This beach club anthem takes you to the dance floor and gives you so much life you may just make time for a party after the after party! Jimmie’s soulful vocals sound blissful over the modern production. Although inspired by Ibiza beats, this fresh sound fits all over the continent.

A lot goes down in Jimmie’s taxi, and the lyrics suggest he has a few stories to tell — from the front seat, back seat and maybe even the roof. As he sings: “I can’t get these pictures out my mind, I was so surprised, I can’t deny that…” And just think: you don’t even have to tip the driver!

Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Jimmie explained:

“When I first heard the track, I was immediately inspired by it.  I had an idea for the melody right away. But it took me about two days to finally write the lyrics. The actual recording for the vocals and production took about three weeks.”

“Quite simply, the song is about what happened on the back seat of a taxi on one crazy drunken night. Sometimes, I think that this song could’ve been written by a taxi driver as I’m sure they’ve seen a lot on their back seats.”

“I took Deban on a ride around Frankfurt in my Audi A5. Guess you can say I was his taxi driver. …which brings me to my new single ‘Taxi Ride’.”

“It’s a collaboration I wrote with my good friend DJ FXMO. As it’s doing rather well in the iTunes charts, we plan to shoot a music video to support the project. Actual music sales still help independent artists like me, and I am thankful for the support of the Eurovision community.”

TAXI RIDE LYRICS

WE DIDN’T PLAN THIS

JUST KIND OF HAPPENED

AND I COULD NEVER HAVE IMAGINED

GUESS IT’S TRUE THE BEST THINGS

ALWAYS COME UNEXPECTED

WHAT HAPPENED ON BACK SEAT OF A TAXI RIDE

TURNED OUT TO BE ONE CRAZY DRUNKEN NIGHT

AND I CAN’T GET THESE PICTURES OUT MY MIND

I WAS SO SURPRISED I CAN’T DENY THAT

AND I DON’T NEED

TO THINK ABOUT IT

I’D DO IT AGAIN

IN A SECOND IN A HEARTBEAT

AND I DON’T NEED TO THINK ABOUT IT

LET’S DO IT AGAIN

JUST THINK ABOUT IT

THINK ABOUT IT

THINK ABOUT IT

SO FULL OF PASSION

SOME KINDA OF MAGIC

AND I COULD NEVER HAVE IMAGINED

SOMETHING SO DANGEROUS

COULD FEEL SO MUCH LIKE HEAVEN

FELT LIKE A RIDE UPON A ROCKET SHIP SO HIGH

SHOWER LIKE RAIN FROM THE SKY

SO GOOD THAT HAPPY FEELING DEEP DOWN INSIDE

I WAS A HIGH AND I CAN’T DENY IT AND

AND I DON’T NEED

TO THINK ABOUT IT

I’D DO IT AGAIN

IN A SECOND IN A HEARTBEAT

AND I DON’T NEED

TO THINK ABOUT IT

LET’S DO IT AGAIN

JUST THINK ABOUT IT

THINK ABOUT IT

THINK ABOUT IT

Usually, playing loud music in your car results in a 10 € fine in Germany. I’m not a law expert, but as far as I know, singing along to “Spirit of the Night” in a cabrio however might be charged with up to five years in prison.

It was a total shame that him and Valentina, both experienced and respectable artists, had to sing a rubbish entry like “Spirit of the Night”. And man, going out of Eurovision with just a single point must hurt a lot.

Anyways, good luck and all the vibes to Jimmie. It was a pleasure to know about him through Eurovision, even with the already known circumstances.
