We may have known who will be participating in Beovizija 2019 since January, however, each entrant’s respective song has been shrouded in a blanket of mystery – until now. As of this morning, RTS have published all 24 competing entries in the Serbian national selection on their official YouTube channel. Let’s have a brief run-down of the show, now that we know all the details, acts and songs.
Reminder of who is in the running
This year’s Beovizija holds a plethora of familiar faces, names and returnees. Nevena Božović, who not only competed in the adult competition but the junior competition too, is eyeing a return to the contest. The same can be said for Extra Nena, the ultimate Yugoslav representative in Eurovision after an illustrious history in the contest.
A couple of names from last year’s edition of Beovizija are also aiming to take one step further than last time. They are, last year’s runner up, Saška Janks, Ivan Kurtić and Lord, both of whom achieved top ten results last year. Two other names who could be on your radar are Jana Šušteršič, participant in Slovenia’s EMA 2015, and Dženan Lončarević, who has produced numerous multi-million-view hits over the past few years.

How will the show play out?
In contrast to last year where there was only one Beovizija show, this year we will be treated to three nights of Serbian music – two semi-finals and a grand final. Each semi-final will hold twelve acts, out of which only six will advance to the grand final on Sunday 3rd March.
Similar to last year, the result of the competition will be determined by both a jury and a public with 50% of the vote coming from industry experts and the remainder from televoting. It is unknown, as of yet, who the jurors are or how many there will be but the manner in which the votes will be announced is going to be the same as last year.
This means that after the jurors have allocated all their points, these will be converted into 12, 10 8-1 based upon an entrant’s jury ranking. With that, the televoting results will follow in a similar fashion, with the highest ranked act receiving 12 points, the second highest receiving 10, and so on. The artist with the highest amount of points at the end will win the right to represent Serbia in Tel Aviv this May.
Furthermore, instead of taking place in New Belgrade’s “Sava Centar”, like last year, this year, Beovizija will be broadcast from RTS’s Studio 8 and 9. Viewers will be able to watch the contest on RTS 1 or on the broadcaster’s online portal RTS Planeta. The show will begin at 21:00 CET so clear your calendars! In addition to this, each artist will have the opportunity to promote their entry on Serbian television during the Jutarnji Program (Morning Program) or during the Šarenica TV show.

8. Samo bez straha (No fear / Get rid of the fear) – also miscredited as Slobodna (Free) – It’s a song about female consolidation against domestic violence. The lyrics are quite empowering and the rhythm is very well composed to go alongside the encouraging message. It accentuates that victims should ask for help and that they have a full support from their loved ones. 16. Tvoje oci (read: ochi) (Your Eyes) – Now we are getting past bad songs, getting into the middle grounds. There are many, many ballads in this year’s Beovizija and this one just doesn’t hold-up. It’s pleasant and the lyrics aren’t that bad. It’s about finding consolation in your partner’s eyes. It’s just quite boring, which is a shame, because they even try to make a build-up at the end. 24. Eleonora: Samo lagano (Only gently/slowly) – It’s complete garbage! This is an example of what we in this parts call ”cajka” (pronounce it ”tsayka”). It’s a pop-folk genre which usually combines terrible lyrics (mostly about cheap seduction, sometimes with nationalistic and chauvinistic implications) with really cheap dum-dum beat. This is terrible even by the standard of cajkas, She sings about how ”real man” can handle her ”only gently”, but that she is still a strong woman. The lyrics are simply atrocious. Hey, everyone! As I got no response as to whether the songs will get separate articles, I will review them here. Every day I will post 8 song reviews, from my bottom to top. I don’t review all NFs to detail, but with Serbia I feel like I can contribute, knowing the lyrics and everything. Also, remember, as always, that this is MY opinion only and doesn’t reflect how you might think or how Serbian NF jury or televote will think. I hope you enjoy my reviews as such.
None of the songs stood out to me. I don’t think we will reach the final this year. Maybe with “Moja bol” by Sashka tho, if the luck serves us well…
Saska’s song is perfect!!!Lyrics is very very catchy…Maybe to upgrade refrain and it will complete…”za tebe babo, za tebe mamo…” is part which is added right on to polemise you.
Saska wrote so emotional lyrics for the deceased parents 🙁

Out of 24 songs, 4 stood out for me. So my top 4 would be: 4. and 3. are tied: *Will probably grow on me even more after live performances* Sashka Janx – Da li cujes moj glas; -I have to admit-I was kinda disappointed with this one after the first listening. I LOVED her last year’s attempt. The thing is, I didn’t expect this kind of song. But once I got used to it, I got addicted. I couldnt agree more… For it’s Nevena or Tamara. I like Tamara a bit better. Sounds fresh and modern, still Balkan. She hopefully nails this and she has something kind of uniqueness.
”Moja bol” is by far the best song, it sounds like something that could go at least top 15 with right performance, I’m surprised it doesn’t have more votes. ”Da li cujes moj glas” has terrible chorus. ”Kruna” and ”Nema Suza” are decent but nothing special.

Moja bol (My Pain) lyrics: Everything is the same. Love hurts me when it touches me. I get accustomed with that, but you still follow me like an unease (It’s hard to translate this, because ”nemir” is a feeling of unease very rarely described as a person like here). Thank you so much, Colin! 🙂 The curious thing is that those songs could be talking about different moments of the same relationship. In terms of lyrics, I think they’re in a similar level. But the strings make me lean toward “Moja bol”, because it seems we won’t have anything like this one in this year’s Eurovision.

sentence “Za tebe babo” in Sashka’s song sounds kinda funny in Czech 😀 it means something like “for you old woman” or “for you grandma” but it’s not very nice when you say “babo” to somebody 😀 “baba” can also mean “hot girl” but I never use it like that 😀 anyway.. Nevena is best for me 🙂

No, maybe in bosnian but not in serbian. In serbian it means just like in czech.
Grandma in Serbian is baba but in south Serbia, Bosnia many people for father say “Babo” instead of “Tata”.

Dženan’s song really gives me an Hari Mata Hari vibe,
and that’s definitely the vibe they should go for – nobody can’t resist a good Balkan ballad, I just hope they remove those awful trumpet transition, and replace it with some softer sounding instruments like Violin, Cello etc’.
Saska and Nevena are also amazing, and over Amazing quality from Serbia this year!
I like Dzenan’s song but i think it wouldn’t do well. If it was 2009 then yes but now no..
After listening to them twice, I would say that these songs are better ones of the selection: Jos ti cujem glas, Nema suza, Kruna, Da li cujes moj glas, Moja bol and Viktorija.
On the other hand, Pogledaj u nebo, Cudo, Zasto da se ne desi, Do 100, Ljubimo se and especially Samo lagano are absolutely terrible.

I choose “Moja Bol”. After Molitva and Oro I actually thought that Serbia would become a major Eurovision player. Turns out it was only Graic and Joksimovic and while Joksimovic always brought good stuff, Graic lost his mojo. The Serbian language is so beautiful, but for me personally, this selection is so lackluster again. I’ll go back to my Sanremo favorites.
Ivana & Wonder Strings or Sashka. The only two songs worth and good for Eurovision. Dzenan has a good song but it’s not for Eurovision. The rest is sad…sad.
There is no such thing as “not for Eurovision”. It’s a song contest for all the music genres.
There is. Some songs are simply made for targeted audience. That’s why there is hit songs and ordinary songs. You get how much you invest in it.
Tell that to Portugal 2017 and Ukraine 2016. What audience did they target, exactly?
Ukraine 2016 was blatantly directed to the anti-Russia sentiment in many countries. Portugal 2017 appealed to the sentimental side of the audience & benefited from the fact that no other song did the same. All songs have targets. Some targets are broader than others, though.
Small correction in translation: Ivan Kurtic’s song is named Bela (with one ”l”), not Bella (with two ”l”) and it doesn’t mean a female name Bella, but simply means ”white” in Serbian. ”Bela” means white when it’s a female adjective. Male adjective would be ”beli” and the middle gender one would be ”belo”.
Serbia gave us what we expected – some Eastern pop, some Balkan tunes and a lot of female power ballads. I’m not particularly fond of any of this songs, but I find Funked Up, Ivan Kurtic and Saska’s songs quite enjoyable, simply because they stand out to me. And kudos to Serbia for giving us Serbian-language songs once again!
