National final season is slowly coming to a close and tonight it was time for the second semi-final of Serbia’s illustrious pre-selection: Beovizija. Six acts had already qualified from last night’s semi and it was time to find out which of the twelve competing tonight would advance to the final on Sunday.

Which 12 acts were competing in semi-final 2?

In total, Beovizija 2019 has 24 entries — 12 in each semi. Hosted by Nebojša Milovanović and Ana Babić, the Serbian national selection showcased everything that the Balkan nation had to offer. The contest was kicked off with an energetic performance of “Ljubimo Se” by Sanja Rio and was wrapped up with a quaint and intimate performance at the hands of Tamara Milanović. Moreover, two fan-favourites, Dženan Lončarević as well as Eurovision alum, Nevena Božović, partook in this semi-final; the competition was real.

1. Sanja D Rio “Ljubimo Se”
2. Majdan “Budim Te”
3. Goga Stanić “Čudo”
4. Ana Popović “Lutaš”
5. Lord “Radnički sin”
6. Nevena Božović “Kruna”
7. Gipsykord “Boje”
8. Jana Šušteršić “Viktorija”
9. Lana & Aldo “Pogledaj u nebo”
10. Dženan Lončarević “Nema suza”
11. Tina & Lola Amvon “Tvoje oči”
12. Tamara Milanović “Reči nisu dovoljne”

On top of the 12 competing acts, in true Beovizija fashion, we were treated to a star-spangled list of guest acts. Opened with a magical and mystical performance of Serbia’s most recent entry “Nova Deca” by none other than Balkanika themselves, Beovizija hosted a plethora of former Eurovision acts from bygone years.  Slovenia’s Lea Sirk alongside Jelena Tomasević gave a touching rendition of Salvador Sobral’s “Amar Pelos Dois”,  subsequently followed by the two of them each showcasing their own Eurovision entries. To add to the party, we were treated to further performances from Bosnia’s Laka, North Macedonia’s Kaliopi, Serbia’s Balkanika as well as the woman who gave Yugoslavia their sole Eurovision victory – Emilija Kokić (RIVA)

Which lucky six made the final cut?

Unfortunately, the final only had room for so many artists, meaning that we would be saying doviđenja to a further six entries. The decision on which lucky six would advance was made by a combination of both a jury of music professionals as well as the Serbian public.  In no particular order, the top six of the night that advanced to the final were:

1. Majdan – “Budim Te”
2. Jana Šušteršič – “Viktorija
3. Nevena Božović – “Kruna”
4. Ana Popović – “Lutaš”
5. Dženan Lončarević – “Nema Suza”
6. Lord – “Radnički sin”

These six will join those who advanced from last night’s semi-final bringing us to twelve finalists still in the running for Tel Aviv. Very soon, 24 will come down to 1 and Serbia will have their entrant for Eurovision 2019

What do you make of the six who advanced to the final? Are you surprised by the results? Did your favourite make the final cut? Let us know your opinion in the comments down below!

This was a rather strange selection for my taste. The prize for the weirdest staging goes to Zenan Loncharevic – he seemed to tell a story surrounding the sad knitting lady who at the end of the song receives a visit from an angel (or some saint with a halo). The staging gave this quite a religious feel, it was slightly disturbing. I guess Lord could do well at Eurovision, people love these uptempo balkan numbers. They’re not so much for me personally, though, although I find this particular song rather palatable, even for my taste. I think I spotted… Read more »

Many stolen songs on Beovizija. One of the obvious is Ivana Vladovic & Wonder Strings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOhBq8K7fRY&feature=youtu.be

I really liked “Kruna” and “Nema Suza”. Both great powerful ballads. Hope one of them wins in the end.

Sofija Peric doesn’t stand a chance. Dzenan is not going to win, nor Sashka. Nevena is the winner, you’ll see. 😉

What a wonderful show it was. I really enjoyed watching it especially the interval acts. Seeing ex-yugoslavian contastants like Knez, Jaques Houdek, Sanja Vucic, Bojana Stamenov, Kaliopi, Balkanika, Lea Sirk, Jelena Tomasevic all together on stage singing the only winning song from Yugoslavia by Riva together made me cry some yugonostalgic tears.

Only Moja Bol is for winning in my opinion. Nevena s Kruna is also good but there are many songs like that in the competition.

Dear Serbia, pick Jana, rework the song so that epic moment last longer, give this girl a real and powerful staging and enjoy your free win in Tel Aviv.

Ah. What a circus. This Beovizija looks like a village circus that comes once a year. Songs are below average. Disappointed. Especially knowing how strong Beovizija used to be and that literally every song was a hit song. So sad. However, there is literally only one song that is okay and it’s Ivana and Wonder Strings – Moja bol. So…yeah…not so optimistic.

If these songs are below the average then what would you call the most of the other songs selected so far for the ESC? Bottom?

A lot of them bought views though. Only Dzenan’s and Nevena’s are organic (from those with over 100k views). Sashka even bought ad on youtube lol, you can’t escape it

Wow, when Nevena started singing tonight I got goosebumps. She has such a wonderful voice. I would like her or Ivana Vladovic and Wonder Strings to win.

Also, I liked interval acts this year- all amazing ESC singers of former Yugoslav republics. It was great to hear Jelena Tomasevic, Knez, Lea Sirk, Kaliopi, Riva and many others. I am really looking forward to Sunday night and I’ll be cheering for Nevena and Ivana. 🙂

Again, Serbia picked mostly all the right songs. It’s gonna be one great final on Sunday. My favorites are Viktorija, Nema suza, Kruna, Da li cujes moj glas and Moja bol. Have to check to see which had the best live performance.

Curiosity is that four online favorites are put in running order as 1st, 4th, 5th and 8th out of 12. Perhaps it was a random draw.

Yes, it was a random draw. Each artist picked his own number from a ball.

Nevena sounds really good, I would like her to participate, if anything, to correct injustice given to her by choosing that terrible costume from 2013 😀
