More artists are being reported for Melodifestivalen 2021. This time Aftonbladet‘s sources reckon that Eurovision 2011 star Eric Saade is seriously considering a Melfest return. Meanwhile, Eurovision 1993 stars Arvingarna and Melfest 2020 singer Paul Rey are both said to be on board for Mello 2021.

Eric Saade considering Melodifestivalen 2021

Aftonbladet’s sources can’t yet confirm Eric Saade for Mello — but he is said to be seriously considering a comeback.

Eric previously represented Sweden at Eurovision 2011, where his song “Popular” placed third. He returned to Melfest in 2015 with the song “Sting” which placed fifth in the grand final. He made an appearance at Melfest 2019 — as part of the hosting team. Eric was rumoured to be considering a Melfest 2020 return, but in the end he didn’t.

Aftonbladet’s source said that Eric already has a potential Melodifestivalen song. “The song is great. But he has not decided yet. He is not one who allows himself to be persuaded, but he must really feel that it is completely right to stand up.”

While Eric’s previous three Melfest performances were in English, in recent years he has focused on Swedish-language songs.

Arvingarna for Melodifestivalen 2021

Popular Swedish dansband Arvingarns (The Heirs) are said to be making their sixth appearance at Melodifestivalen. They won the contest in 1993 with “the upbeat Swedish-language song “Eloise”. It went on to place seventh at Eurovision 1993.

More recently, the group return to Melodifestivalen 2019 with the song “I Do” and placed seventh in the grand final. The song also won Best Song at the 2019 Guldklaven dansband awards.

Paul Rey for Melodifestivalen 2021

Paul Rey looks to be the fifth artist from Melodifestivalen 2020 returning next year. He competed earlier this year with “Talking In My Sleep” which placed eighth in the grand final.

He is also known for the 2017 remix of his song “California Dreaming”, including a guest rap from American hip hop icon Snoop Dogg.

Melodifestivalen 2021: Expected acts

According to Aftonbladet, we already know 11 of the 28 acts for Melodifestivalen 2021. They are P4 Nästa wildcard entry Julia AlfridaTusse Chiza, Sannex, Sami Rekik & WahlThe Mamas, Dotter, Jessica Andersson, Klara Hammarström, Alvaro Estrella, Paul Rey and Arvingarna. Eric Saade is on the list of acts being chased by SVT.

The Melfest rules forbid artists from revealing whether or not they’re participating. Therefore, Aftonbladet’s reports are not official. However, their rumours have proven accurate before, as they correctly predicted 45 of the last two years’ 56 participants.

SVT is expected to announce the full Melodifestivalen line-up later this month.

What do you think? Which other artists would you like to see competing in Melfest 2021? Who should Sweden send to Rotterdam? Tell us your thoughts below!

I’d love to see Eric at Eurovision again but does he have a chance against The Mamas?

he’s way popular than “the mamas”, but it’s true that fame doesn’t always result in success (felix sandman this year)

He’s not way more popular than The Mamas, the prime of his career was ten years ago. Theirs is now.

Do the Mamas stand a chance you should ask? Cause you know Swedes don’t do sympathy votes. Also we don’t vote for former winners. Especially if he is singing in Swedish, we know his interest isn’t to win..

Carola won in 2006 as a two-time winner, singing in Swedish.

Exceptions doesn’t make the rule, does it? Besides she translated it into English because she knew it would have a better chance..

Would welcome an Eric Saade return. “Popular” is one of my favorite Swedish entries, I also liked “Sting”. It’s also 10 years in 2021 since Eric last participated.

(OMG, 10 years since Düsseldorf, Popular, Jedward, Ell&Nikki? Where did that time go?)
Eric is also a nice guy and hella handsome so definitely would welcome him back to the ESC stage.

SVT has many options you know. If he doesn’t want to they find someone else.
