“Voy a quedarme” sees Spain’s Blas Cantó sing to his loved one, promising to stay forever no matter if the sun wanes or the sky falls down. “I know there are many like me with so much to offer, but I swear this love won’t be defeated” croons Blas in this slow-building ballad.

Spain in Eurovision 2021: Blas Cantó “Voy a quedarme”
As with many 2021 artists, Blas Cantó was originally due to sing at Eurovision 2020. He was revealed as Spain’s act in autumn 2019, while his song “Universo” was released the following January. Blas was re-confirmed as the country’s 2021 act almost as soon as the cancellation of the 2020 contest was announced.
However, things were done differently this year. Rather than going with an internally selected number, Blas and RTVE are letting the people decide. During a two-hour special on Saturday 20 February, the Spanish public had the opportunity to choose between “Voy a quedarme” and “Memoria”. There was no jury vote. Blas said he couldn’t make the decision himself as both tracks contain a “piece of his soul”. “Voy a quedarme” won out.
What do the “Voy a quedarme” lyrics mean?
“Voy a quedarme” sees Blas singing to his loved one, and promising to stay forever no matter what the conditions are. “May the Sun wane, may the sky fall” he promises to stay “centimetres away” from that person.
In an interview with Blas, RTVE notes that “Voy a quedarme” is the song which undoubtedly strikes a chord with the singer. The “Universo” hitmaker explains why: “It’s a super special song. They both are. But I wrote this one at the most difficult moment of my life. I wrote it at the time my father was passing away. Then I recorded it when my grandmother was dying from COVID and it was a very hard moment. In fact, the emotion is noticeable in the voice, I think. It is a song that gives off sensitivity and a lot of strength at the end. What happens is that you always put the beginning, which is how slower and so on, but then it grows in a brutal way”.
In the same discussion, Cantó reveals that he would love to perform it a cappella: “I think it would be more sincere than starting it with the piano. In the immensity of a stage like Eurovision, with that trembling and fragile voice at the beginning, I think it is very sincere and that the song asks for it. It is an idea that we have had for a long time and that we are investigating, really”. He wants it so that even the slightest breath can be heard.

English translationStay tonight until the break of day stay just for one more second, I made the sky come down to discover I’m going to stay and I promise and I’ll leave fears behind I know there are many like me And even though we made It doesn’t matter if the world falls down today I’m going to stay and I promise and I’ll leave fears behind Let the floor quake by your side and I’ll leave fears behind |

They should have given him one of the Melodifestivalen reject songs lol and that would have done better. Im sorry but spain just gets worst and worst over the years
Must have Been about boredom then!
In know spanish language and I like the lyrics
I don’t agree. I think you must be made of stone if you don’t connect with that loss about Covid. Omg, so much strength Blas
I prefer Voy a quedarme. With true and deep emotions, Spain may get a good grade this year.
Works well as a live performance.
I vastly prefer Memoria, which is actually memorable. The only part in this song I can remember is that one metallic sounding percussion, which reminded me a lot of SOPHIe’s music. But that’s it.
Both songs are so bad. But then again, I’m not surprised. Spain doesn’t really care about sending good songs. That’s to be expected.
Voy A Quedarme isn’t bad, its quite nice actually.
However, Memoria………
Omg, you are so freak!!! Lol! Both are awesome!
Spain won’t end up in the top 15 this year or something, but I think you are underestimating them this year. The songs are good enough to not come in the bottom 5.
lol you all say the exact same thing every year
Unlike others, I don’t overrate Spain’s songs. Voy a quedarme actually has potential.
