Blind Channel Dark Side Eurovision 2021

It’s set to be a busy few days for Eurovision fans. Between Wednesday, and Saturday we’ll have at least one new song every day. But before we welcome the new entries, let’s check in on the results of our most recent “who is your favourite Eurovision 2021 act so far?” survey. And after two polls dominated by Croatia’s Albina, we can confirm that our readers have a new number one — Finland’s Blind Channel with Dark Side.

Poll results: Blind Channel are your favourite Eurovision 2021 act so far (24 February)

Since Sunday, 10,319 votes were cast in our poll. Of these, 1,806 votes went to the newly crowned UMK winners Blind Channel. The violent-pop act took home 17.5% of all votes cast.

After a reign of almost two weeks of dominance, Croatia’s Albina slips to second… but only just. The “Tick-Tock” songstress still gathered up an impressive 1,760 votes or 17.06% of all votes cast. That places her a mere 46 votes behind the men of Finland.

Lithuania’s The Roop also slip, from second to third. The “Discoteque” trio managed 1,682 votes, which is actually up from the 1,195 votes they received in our last poll. This time they got 16.3% of all votes cast.

Ukraine’s Go_A and France’s Barbara Pravi complete the top five. Despite finishing lower in the table, both acts increased their vote numbers on this occasion. Thankfully, this isn’t a battle royale. All ten acts will return to the ring once again when we relaunch the poll after Cyprus, Germany, Ireland and Slovenia reveal their songs.

Reality check please. Songs like those of Finland and Ukraine are definitely NQ’s. If you have watched ESC over the years you know they don’t stand a chance to reach or score in the final. So far, Lithuania, France, Croatia and the Czech Republic are well on their way. Germany’s and Cyprus’s fate will be determined by their presentation but they stand a good chance. The others can retry next year.

I love how people are sooo into this, when it doesn’t even matter. lol
These are just a couple of thousands of votes. Also, quality > quantity. ?????
Objectively, Finland’s song is very average, and the singers are hilarious. But it seems that 1,806 people like it, and that’s ok.
On the other hand, it also means that 8,513 people don’t like it that much or at all. And that’s also ok.

A close poll result between the top 5. If accurate, there are perhaps two ways to interpret this result. Either no entry has really stood out so far, or all of the top 5 could equally be potential winners. N.B. The support of “Dark Side” is a little unexpected; isn’t that a bit “old hat” by now? Haha

Why is it that everytime someone posts a ranking that is a bit different from what the general public likes it gets downvoted? I don’t get it… taste is subjective, and some people might not like France, Finland or Lithuania? Let people have different opinions, it is not that difficult…

I do understand why you have mentioned this, but it would then make the downvote button redundant wouldn’t it?

I see your point but I think the downvote button is, in this case, more like “I disagree with you” rather than “I don’t appreciate your opinion”.

I mean, I am not against people disagreeing, that is what I said taste is subjective but, at this point, every upvoted or generally accepted ranking seems to be the very same. Even when people comment that their favourite is I don’t know… let’s say Albania? People feel the need to comment why it should not be in the top position, that is what I do not get… Anyway, the real voting will be on May, and I am excited for a bit of competition!

Down voting button is plainly stupid. The worst feature introduced on this blog ever.

For a person with severe depression, anxiety and social anxiety it feels like cyber bullying. That’s why I like replies to my comments. Even if they are negative. This creates a conversation. I have a chance to consider your opinion.

Down voting seems to me like one of those companies who just say no to your job application without giving you a feedback. Just a slap in the face without giving you a reason why.

Hi Benny, there is probably an argument to say that there shouldn’t be an upvote button either. Someone with anxiety and depression may even begin to wonder why they have less upvotes than someone else? My own perspective is that it is like pantomime – boo’s for the bad guys and cheers for the good guys – just a bit of basic fun. I certainly wouldn’t pay any attention to them and try to have confidence in your own opinions. Other people shouldn’t dictate how you feel about yourself, although I know that this is sometimes much easier said than… Read more »

I believe you do and that most people that downvote a different opinion have no intentions on being harmful. But imagine if a 13 year old comments here for the very first time, they give an innocent opinion like “Montenegro is my favorite, I love this song” and gets tons of downvotes. Wouldn’t they feel discouraged to be part of this community? I know some people simply don’t care about downvotes, but I always think on those who are just trying to find someone to talk about Eurovision.

I still think downvotes should be only used to indicate someone is being toxic, spamming or spreading false information. Otherwise, we already have the option of not clicking any button. If you agree or found the comment useful, you upvote. If you disagree, just let it there and respect a different opinion. But the downvotes on rankings are especially weird to me, because it’s impossible to figure out why people were downvoting it. Was it because it has a winner they don’t like? Maybe they disagree with the last place? Or are they being too specific and complaining the 5th… Read more »

Almost choked on my tea when I saw my own country first in the poll
(and before anyone says, I know it probably won’t stay that way or there’s something wrong with the poll etc. but let my have my moment ok, thank you)

A lot of people who vote won’t care about commenting – it’s much easier to tick a box than to type something out. Also if you look at social media, there are a lot of comments and replies where the poll has been shared on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – so a lot of people probably don’t feel the need to comment here too. Also, you can vote for multiple acts, so 10,000 votes cast doesn’t mean 10,000 people voted. 😉

I did think these were quite a high number of votes but if you look back to this time last year the polls were getting 15,000 votes total. Also, different artists have different levels of online audiences ect. I think looking at the My Eurovision Scoreboard probably gives a more accurate picture but these polls are still fun as a snapshot.

I’ve seen a lot of that on the last poll as well so I guess you gotta take results with a lil pinch of salt. Who’s your favourite so far? I don’t think I’ll be able to process all the songs we’re about to get 😛

I only downvoted because I disagree with how high Norway is on your list. With the current representative of Norway this year, it should be atleast two spots lower in my opinion.

These polls are pointless. Of course people are gonna vote for the freshest song. Let them settle for a couple weeks and then see.
