They don’t like feeling hate! That’s why Germany is back with a slightly new selection format for Eurovision 2022, named “Germany 12 points – der deutsche Vorentscheid”. Now broadcaster ARD/NDR has revealed some more information about the on-going process via a special backstage video.

Although the country is no longer using the special combination of experts and international jurors, Germany is still using a jury panel to pick its national final acts. Last weekend, the best 25 singers (of over 900 who applied with their own original song) performed live in front of a “secret jury”.

To shed more light into this live audition process, TV-host Aline Stiegler took viewers behind the stage of the so-called “Vor-Vorentscheid” (the “pre national selection”). The 25 acts had to perform live in front of radio hosts from a variety of radio stations in Germany who will work together with the broadcaster this year.

But who was part of this special jury? Well.. this will be a secret until the final set of acts are revealed, tells Head of Delegation Alexandra Wolfslast. They want to make sure no juror gets influenced by anyone. More fairness to the world!

Watch the whole interview and other exciting backstage material below – in German.

Germany 12 points – Live auditions

Rumoured participants

To keep things even more secret, the candidates have also not revealed. However, you can see some shoes and clothes from the performers on stage. From this, some eager fans have guessed the identity of Xavier Darcy, who previously competed in Germany’s 2018 national final. But there are no confirmations yet, to protect artists who don’t make the final cut.

That doesn’t mean that ARD/NDR doesn’t know how to tease us. In the released clip, Aline Stiegler talks to a woman who works at the secret live audition location. She reveals that a female singer who also previously took part in the German national final in the past will audition. Is it Ivy Quianoo, Ella Endlich? Or even a singer who has already represented Germany before like Jamie-Lee, Ann Sophie (who redeemed herself through The Voice of Germany at the end of 2021) or even Lena? Only time will tell…

Another act people may very well see at Germany’s selection show this year is Eskimo Callboy. The band – who recently stated via Instagram there will be some changes to their name – openly talked about their application for Turin and desire to represent Germany this year with their trance/metal/pop-mixed song “Pump it”.

In the behind-the-scenes video, HoD Alexandra Wolfslast also reveals how amazing the live audition weekend was and that she has already fallen in love with at least nine acts.

We will have to await a little longer for any confirmation from Germany though. They will reveal the names of the acts who have proceeded to the national final no sooner than 10 February.

Although the results of the live auditions have been decided by a jury, the final itself will not include a specific jury vote. Only TV viewers, radios and online users will decide the German act for Eurovision 2022 in Turin

What did you learn from the behind-the scenes-video about the Germany 12 Points live auditions? Who do you want to see representing Germany at Eurovision 2022? Let us know in the comments below.

Poor Germany, they only sent a good song in 2020 and the contest was canceled.

How the hell Ann Sophie redeemed herself? Voice either for young artists or someone whose career flopped, and she is not young, also it almost never make stars

“Tijana Todevska (…) was born in Skopje, at the time part of SFR Yugoslavia, to a Macedonian father Velko Todevski, a music teacher, and Bosnian Serb mother Brana, an opera singer. Her parents studied in Sarajevo, where they met. She has a younger sister Tamara, and is married to Milan Dap?evi?, a Serbian businessman.”

If you slow the video speed down to 0.25, I think you can read ‘Callboys’ from Broder’s lips at 4:29/4:30 in. But of course it might as well just be wishful thinking on my part.

Off topic: the eurovision 2022 logo and slogan have accidentally been revealed by Turin municipality employees. They hung banners with the slogan up too early 😀 . https://mobile.twitter.com/catrionaeg/status/1484551905078562819?s=21

Thank you for the news, if real I won’t be a fan of these visuals, of these colors, and of this year’s logo and slogan but after all it won’t prevent me to appreciate this esc, the songs and the show are more important

I did feel hate last year. Being German-Polish meant feeling an overload of shame and disbelief at Eurovision 2021.
