Denmark in Eurovision 2022: REDDI “The Show”

Ida Bergkvist on bass, Mathilde “Siggy” Savery on guitar and vocals, Agnes Roslund on guitar and Ihan Haydar on drums. These fantastic four – brought together as a group by drummer Ihan and Danish music industry legend Chief1 – together make up REDDI, who won the Danish ticket to Eurovision 2022 back at the start of March.

REDDI take their sonic inspiration from two rich musical decades: the seventies and the nighties.

“We’re all inspired by seventies music and rock in general,” Siggy told us at the London Eurovision Party, “we’re trying to combine the rock of the seventies with the punk pop of the nineties, which is a nice hybrid I think. It works. We’re all rock pop musicians and that’s what we like to do together.”

What do “The Show” lyrics mean?

“The Show” is an impassioned rallying cry to be true to yourself when others would doubt you. Turning your back on the doubters can be a challenge, but in the song REDDI insist it will be worth it in the long run, “I’m not sorry, this is all me, and I will never let it go, I will keep up with the show.”

As well as calling for people to keep up with the show, the lyrics also offer a direct challenge to haters too. The second verse, for example, reads as a direct rebuke, “You never followed and now you’re blocked. And now and forever, I’ll show you what I’ve become.”

The song gains momentum as the band gain confidence, reflecting a journey from doubt to certainty.

“The Show” lyrics  – REDDI (Denmark Eurovision 2022)

Songwriters: Chief 1, Ihan Haydar, Julia Fabrin, Remee Jackman, Siggy Savery

All the things you said when I was just a kid
Telling me that I, I needed to fit in
Year after year, I never understood
How you could’ve dropped me when I needed you the most

If this is what I want
That’s how it’s gonna be
I am not afraid of what’s in front of me

You can try me
You can’t stop me
And I will never let it go
I will keep up with the show
I’m not sorry
This is all me
And I will never let it go
I will keep up with the show

So you, you, you
You can try me

All the things that I, I wanted to forget
The words that you said kept playing in my head
You never followed and now you’re blocked
And now and forever, I’ll show you what I’ve become

If this is what I want
That’s how it’s gonna be
I am not afraid of what’s in front of me

You can try me
You can’t stop me
And I will never let it go
I will keep up with the show
I’m not sorry
This is all me
And I will never let it go
I will keep up with the show

Guitar Solo

You can try me
You can’t stop me
And I will never let it go
I will keep up with the show
I’m not sorry
This is all me
And I will never let it go
I will keep up with the show

And I will never let it go
I will keep up with the show
So you, you, you (One, two, three, four)
You, you, you
You can try me

I’m pretty sure the first verse talks specificly about an unsupportuve and overly critical parent who constantly puts their child down, devalues and belittles their dreams and work. Kinda like Piers Brosnan’s character in The Story of Fire Saga, only here it’s the mother, as Siggy sings “she” in the NF performance.

On a side note, Ida has such a cute laugh! and an absolutely gorgeous 90s-like hairstyle!

This song is a great middle finger to the people that always said you were never good enough, or that you couldn’t be yourself.

It’s not bad per se, but with staging and lackluster vocals like as it is (with Denmark pretty much never taking any consideration of staging upgrades to the actual contest) I don’t think this can do well. The whole package just seems too amateurish to me.

Very underrated. The girls really pop on stage, and with the running order (they perform after Portugal and Croatia) I think they actually have a good chance of making it through to the finale.

This is possibly the most underrated song of this year, I really like it!

I know that no one is expecting this one to get to the final because it´s so repetitive but for me, at least after listening to it several times, it´s one of the best songs this year, mostly because of the incredible energy these women express <3
