They fought their way through two phases of a national final before winning Slovenia’s ticket for Eurovision. And now LPS are poised to perform their upbeat track “Disko” fifth in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 on May 10.

Slovenia in Eurovision 2022: LPS “Disko”
LPS – which stands for Last Pizza Slice – formed in 2018. As well as their Eurovision entry, they have a broad musical back catalogue touching on rock, soul, jazz, funk and blues. The group is comprised of five members: Filip on vocals, Gašper on drums, Mark on electric guitar, Zala on bass and tenor and alto saxophones, and Žiga on keyboard.
The group made their way to Eurovision through Slovenia’s long established national final EMA. They passed through the preliminary EMA Freš round, cleared a semi-final and then cruised to victory in the grand final, 13 points clear of their next biggest rival.
What do the “Disko” lyrics mean?
Despite an upbeat disco sound, “Disko” actually deals with heartbreak. Vocalist Filip was dumped by his girlfriend at a disco. Fortunately, the group have gone from crying at the discotheque to performing on the Eurovision stage.
“I want you but you’re giving your heart to another,” Filip sings, lamenting the lost relationship, “We’re dancing, but only in my dreams.”
Indeed the song wrestles with the pain of heartbreak. “My heart is drowning in tears,” the lyrics continue, “With each heartbeat, my blood flows slower.”
There is at least a note of optimism from the band, where they try to move on, adding the line, “From now on I’ll go to the disco alone.”

This is actually in my top three! I really love it. And one weird I love about it is the “but you are giving your heart to another” part because in Slovenian it sounds almost exactly like it sounds in my native Polish. It feels like I am listening to a song in a foreign language and suddenly I hear a phrase in my language and it is so fun
I love this song. So much better than anything a group of seven Swedes can put together.
This song is in my top 10 and it pains me to see how little people seem to care about this song. The message, though a bit cliché, is still cute, and the way the band works together gives off such fun vibes. I really do hope for Slovenia that they can qualify, because LPS deserves it

Really well made lyrics and song, a high school band performing at Eurovision is a really fun concept and one that could draw some votes. I’d see this being a dark horse, it hits the same niches of Dadi Freyr
This is one of those “Stop singing about it and ask her out” type of songs. It works for Eurovision because it’s a big event where everyone can get behind the “in the now” mode. The issues with this entry are not so much with the lyrics, but rather with the music and its execution.
Even Bulgaria has more chances to qualify than this. Next time try to send a non totally boring song.
