Israel’s Netta was the last solo female performer to win the Eurovision Song Contest — and that was back in 2018. Will 2023 belong to the guys yet again?
As we look to the 37 songs competing at Eurovision 2023, we’re assessing the variety of acts, styles, genres and performers. So pray tell us: Who do you think is the best male solo act in this year’s competition?
We have four male solo acts in semi-final 1, five male solos in semi-final 2 plus one more automatic qualifier in the grand final. Are you breaking my broken heart with Andrew Lambrou or Reiley, do you have due vite like Marco Mengoni or did someone shoot a hole in that heart with Remo Forrer’s watergun?
Who is your favourite male solo act at Eurovision 2023?
You have ten choices. Let us know who your favourites are by voting below. You can vote for as many acts as you want, but remember to choose wisely because you can only submit your votes once!
Listen to the male solo acts of Eurovision 2023
Gustaph – “Because of You” (Belgium)
Andrew Lambrou – “Break a Broken Heart” (Cyprus)
Reiley – “Breaking My Heart” (Denmark)
Käärijä – “Cha Cha Cha” (Finland)
Victor Vernicos – “What They Say” (Greece)
Pasha Parfeni – “Soarele și luna” (Moldova)
Theodor Andrei – “D. G. T. (Off and On)” (Romania)
Luke Black – “Samo mi se spava” (Serbia)
Remo Forrer – “Watergun” (Switzerland)
Marco Mengoni – “Due vite” (Italy)
Who are your favourites? Which of the semi-finalists do you want to see in the grand final? Let us know in the comments below.
KÄÄRIJÄ OFC
Marco … great song, amazing voice and a very handsome man ???
Kaarija and Luke are my favourites. I also have a soft spot for Marco, he is an amazing artist.
Oh I so wish Jann was here! 😛
Moldova. Hes a good lockin man
This poll is kinda useless…
We’ve got the hotties (Cyprus, Italy, Moldova and Serbia) and the teens (Greece, Switzerland, Denmark and Romania). And then we got the turn offs (Belgium, Finland).
I can see the hype for Finland’s song, but about the singer, he’s anything but hot. I doubt anyone here would date him, I mean, let’s just be honest!
Switzerland and Denmark are not teens. Maybe their target audiences are, though. Also, Finland is definitely not a ”turn off”.
Kaarija is a huuuuuuge turn on for me haha
The comment of Dida is so, so, soooo useless and pointless
Cringe comment…
Most of the questions asked below are painfully stupid smh
Definitely, Moldova
Speaking about the song and performance… speaking about how “hot” the singer is, is just futile and pointless….
I’d imagine Kärjää to be really good in bed and he has the best song. Marco and Andrew both beautiful though.
Not after all that drinking.
I just take Marco… better song, voice and a really handsome man ???
We have three male artists of madness this year:
Pure Craziness: Kärjää
Sensual Lunacy: Lulu
Nerdy Mania: Theodor
Who’s Lulu?
UK’s 1969 winner. Or in this case maybe Mr. Black 🙂
Voice? Song? Sex-Appeal?
Voice: Marco Mengoni though too high for me, Theodor Andrei, Andrew Lambrou and Remo Forrer
Song: Cha Cha Chaaaaa, Switzerland, Cyprus, Romania
Sex Appeal: Marco Mengoni, Kärjää
Full Package: Kärjää
Andrew Lambrou
Marco Mengoni
Remo Forrer
Theodor Andrei
Gustaph

I have been commenting on Wiwi for 10 years now, so I realise that we have done these category polls many times before without that much debate (except in 2014). However, right now, defining gender is highly topical in some countries. If I were cynical, I might assume that a category of “male solo act” was deliberately used here in order to ignite a debate about sex and gender in the comments. This blog is about Eurovision, where such categories have no bearing on the contest whatsoever. It’s not as if the competitors are training for Athletics where the sex… Read more »
There’s not really much you can do about it. They won’t listen to one commenter at the end of the day.
Just like it is important for people who identify differently to be identified differently
It is important for men who are gay to be identified as men. Sometimes the world doesn’t treat them equally as straight men. So it is important that such polls reinforce that they are men.
I think the wiwibloggs editors have enough sensibility that they wouldn’t put performers who identity as non-binary or fluid in these polls. Inclusion is more important though in my opinion.
I’m the one doing both the male and female solo act polls (the last one being group/duos). I can assure you there is no wish for us to spark a gender debate with the polls, they are just good fun as the rest of the themed polls are.
When we shared the article on social media several of these artists returned with a positive response, so we hope it also helps to put the spotlight on them in different ways. That is our aim at least 🙂
Thank you Simon, that’s appreciated. It is indeed important to have the support of the artists.
I was reading about the BRIT Awards recently. They abolished “Best British Female” and “Best British Male” last year, and joined them as one “Best British Artist” award. This year all five of the nominated artists were men.
I’m not sure if this tells us anything, or shows the importance of gender quotas… but maybe.
I know nowadays everything seems to be about cotton Candy and unicorns, I know your heart IS in the right place when writing this but I think you are leaning a bit towards drama. I am gay and a man and thinking that a Wiwibloggs poll about best male singer reinforces my masculinity is a little bit WTF.
Where would Sam Smith fit in? It’s important to recognize men as men, women as women… but also the rest that don’t fit into either box. Maybe a fourth poll is necessary. Favourite non-binary. Okay, so there might be limited options, or none, but at least it will show all the non-binary voters out there that they matter too. A poll with zero names would definitely make some of sort of point to ponder.
I was thinking about Sam today. What a coincidence! I also literally had this discussion with some friends at home. That’s also a coincidence… right?
Of course. Coincidence.
That shirt looks nice on you, by the way.
I’d like to answer your question, but I don’t wanna be banned
Hi Purple Mask, I am curious to know, since you have been following these polls for 10 years now, can you recall if the “who should win Eurovision” poll has managed to guess the eventual winner correctly more or less times? I have been following for a long time too, but I can’t remember the results of past polls… but would be curious to know. In any case, the Wiwi poll seems to have a different winner than one other Eurovision poll on the internet that I’m following. Also, one particular app has a different winner. It is interesting because… Read more »
That’s a good question. As Simon mentioned, the polls on Wiwi have always been for fun, so if they have ever been accurate then it was coincidence. Sometimes it has been broadly accurate, if that makes sense.
woke much ?
What does “woke” mean nowadays? Seems like a compliment, I’m sure Purple Mask will appreciate it.
Jonas, it’s like you’re plugged into my subconscious. “Woke” sounds to me like “awakened”, which is exactly how I feel when looking at why we do things. I know it’s not used as a compliment here, but it is apt in describing the feeling. On a separate note: I don’t understand why a “woke” way of thinking upsets some people. Perhaps you could explain that to me?
I don’t think I can, sadly. It seems to be a word that has been distorted from its original meaning. It’s beyond my comprehension why anybody would ever have a problem with the idea of social conscience.
Life is much more easy than all that. If you dont like the poll you Skip It if you do, you vote.
Why everything has to be so complicated? Why do people might be offended for the most harmless and unimportant things?
My top 3 if I base my judgment on the song:
1 – Käärijä
2 – Andrew Lambrou
3 – Luke Black
If I have to base it on the quality of the singer then my favorite certaibly is Switzerland because Remo has a really powerful voice.
I really like Cyprus with a beautiful romantic rock song, Denmark with a modern proposal exactly in the style that teenagers currently like, Moldova which is doing “Fulenn” again but better (I can say it, I’m French), but here I vote for Italy: beautiful text, beautiful music, beautiful voice and more beautiful face, the Marco has everything, you can’t fight.
You should have your French citizenship revoked if you honestly believe Moldova’s low budget version is anywhere near the great Fulenn.
With all the affection I have for Alvan & Aez (I love them, really), Moldova is very brave (or unconscious) to propose something in the same spirit as “Fulenn”, when we got caught with one of our worst rankings.
And it’s very sad because France won’t send another song in Breton to Eurovision for years to come, whereas I’ve also been saying for years that if we had the intelligence to send Cécile Corbel, she would take the cup home.
Pasha. For that killer smile. 🙂
voted without prewatching for käärijä!
he is leading momently the poll…is he gay?
no m.m.oder luke leading…hmmm
Male? Hello? How do you know what their gender is? Non binary people literally exist.
I don’t know if you’re serious but anyway. The title is not wrong as it says “male singer” 🙂 “Male” refers to the sex of a person, it’s a biological descriptor so nothing to do with the gender or how a person feels.
How does that make it any better? If anything, it makes it worse. In what poll would you put Dana International?
Don’t answer.
Male, as controversial as that may be.
You didn’t tell me not to answer.
Sad.
Obviously Käärijä, but I just love Remo’s silky smooth voice!
Honestly there were only a few on the list that I could say weren’t on my favorites list. My tops are Pasha, Marco, Andrew, and Remo. And of course Luke spavaaaaaaa
cant help but point out how many cute guys we have competing this year. luke, reiley, andrew, marco… the gays have been rewarded!
voted Finland and Moldova here because those are the two i like most of these options
The blonde wigged and the Lobster lover : )
For me it’s KAARIJA, then Pasha, then Luke
Käärujä by a looooooong margin. And then of course, Luke Black.
*Käärija
Luke, Kaarija, Marco. The rest can go away ASAP.
Finland really is good. Belgium and Denmark really under rated Denmark reminds me of The 1975 Belgium is just a really good pop rnb song vocally fantastic
No offense Reiley or Denmark but his song is literally painful to listen for me.
Why so are you so selective this year, Wiwi?
There are other polls coming later, so all acts will have their chance to be voted on 🙂
Marco and Kaarija for me. I already came here as a big fan of Marco and Kaarija has become my biggest discovery of the season, as I keep listening to his stuff.
Greece and Denmark will do better than expected. Sad to see Italy flop because of the song, Marco deserves a better result than the one he had in 2013
Käärijä, Luke Black (for the songs) and Andrew Lambrou (for the looks lol). Not the strongest year for male participants.
Only that guy with the lobster.
Gustaph is just on another level in this comparison.
I like that Kaarija’s headshot above makes him look like a character in Street Fighter.
It was the one I could find that resembled the others the most. So Street Fighter for Käärijä it is! 🙂
Well, he looks ready for a Cha Cha Cha with Ken at least 🙂
I wouldn’t put him up against Ryu.
What about against Blanka? 😀
I was wondering if someone would mention Blanka. That troll wouldn’t stand a chance 😛
I don’t have a favorite. I acknowledge that Marco Mengoni and Kaarija are good performers.
Finland, Serbia and Moldova are the best and Belgium and Romania the worst ones.
Kaarija of course. Luke black is also effortlessly cool and chill guy. Italian and Cypriot guys are hot but are bottoms so YUCK
Remo .He is sooo talented he has an impressive voice. Absolutely a classy choice from Switzerland !
Andrew Cyprus most handsome
1. Luke Black
2. Pasha Parfeni
3. Theodor Andrei
Honorable 4th Reiley
I hope all three of them score a top 10 placement.
I hope he qualifies.
I forgot to mention, but Pasha Parfeny also has a great song. 🙂
Andrew Lambrou is also good. Hopefully, he can sing it live.
No mentions for Andrew, Gustaph, Reiley, and Remo?
I like all of them as performers. I just mentioned my (so far) favorite entries here. I did mention Andrew too. He has a good entry. I just hope he can deliver it live.
Ah I missed you mentioned Andrew!
So only three not mentioned—I know you often have a sweet word for them all in poll like these, that had been my thought 🙂
My personal favourite is Luke Black!
He is amazing, his performance is such a experience!
Another step further at Eurovision and that´s great !
Luke isn’t black tho. Luke White.
