Portugal’s Mimicat wrote her Eurovision entry “Ai Coração” in just five minutes. Little did she know back then that this track would take her all over Europe and make her perform in one of the biggest stages of the world. Ahead of Eurovision 2023, Mimicat is getting ready to bring Portuguese flair to Liverpool.

It has also taken her to the Wiwibloggs LUSH Liverpool Lounge where she sat with our William to discuss her new staging, the atmosphere between the Eurovision 2023 participants in Liverpool and the pre-parties… and even get slightly spicy. Don’t worry, you know it’s always a family show at out house.

Mimicat “Ai Coração” Interview after Eurovision 2023 second rehearsal

But of course one of the main differences everybody noticed on her rehearsal it was that there was no sofa on the Liverpool stage. Mimicat explained that it would look too tiny in such a big space, and it also “stole” movement from the beginning of the performance.

Red was always a prominent colour in most of her Eurovision performances, and for Mimicat, that was a “perfect match”. It is not only her favourite colour, but it’s also directly associated with the word “heart”, which translates as “coração” in Portuguese.

Mimicat has been enjoying a great experience in Liverpool, and she even told us it’s easier than being at home. In fact, back in Portugal she has to coordinate her music career with taking care of her two children, aged four and one. It does get “chaotic” back home, she admits.

However, Liverpool is proving to be a lot of fun for them. “It doesn’t feel like a competition”, she tells us. The other day, the participants went on a boat tour down the Mersey river and they even had a conga line.

Many of you have been asking: where does the name “Mimicat” come from? The singer explains “Mimi” is a nickname she’s always had in her family, while “cat” comes from her “sassy part”. Meow!

I need to clear something up – During the ceremony she said she was a grandma, when here it says her children are only 4 & 1? I’m confused, I can’t find info on it online even though someone in the youtube chat live seemed to confirm it at the time.

She meant to say Godmother.

I Think she probably wanted to say that she is a “godmother” and not a “grandmother”. 🙂

She IS my favourite. I LOVE Portugal entries. I think they never go for the easy bunga bunga song.

We definitely need more of this attitude. It’s so great to hear the artists speak in such a carefree way about their experience. It doesn’t have to be about winning all the time.

For sure it’s not a competition, Sweden is already the declared winner

That’s the spirit! What is important is to simply enjoy the ride and give the best performance you can and hope for a good result. 🙂

I am not Portugese and I disagree fully. She sings well, choreography is fun and overall I enjoy this song a lot. Also, Mimicat seems to be a very nice down to earth person. Tbh I did like the sofa in the NF but well.. still a great song!
