Once again The Netherlands aren’t wasting any time when it comes to choosing their Eurovision participant.

We don’t even know all the countries set to take part in Eurovision 2017, but we’ll soon know the Dutch representative.

As Dutch regional broadcaster Omroep Brabant reports, Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS will reveal their act for Kyiv some time in October. It could be less than two weeks before we know a 2017 act!

AVROTROS’ ESC chief Daniel Dekker says that the broadcaster is in a strong position this year. Whereas in previous years they might have only had one act to pick from, AVROTROS have “several great artists” in their selection pool already. He hinted that it might be a “strategic choice” from the Netherlands this year.

What could that mean?

It would certainly be smart to send an act with Eurovision experience of some form. That may point to O’G3NE — Dutch singing sisters supreme and ex-Junior Eurovision stars. O'G3NE, Lisa Amy Shelley VolThe girls have lots of support behind them (Dutch star Jan Smit called for AVROTROS to select them) and they’d be a popular pick with fans.

O’G3NE have said they’ve not been approached yet, but they “have an idea” about how to win. Sounds like a strategy to us!

They’re not the only act that could be up for consideration. Other heavy hitters and fan favourites include those we listed on our wishlist, including the likes of Caro Emerald and Dotan.

Unfortunately, we know one group that won’t be on that list. Rockers Within Temptation have once again ruled themselves out of Eurovision contention. The group say that whilst they “love the event”, they could only “do worse” out of it from where they’re currently at in their career.

No matter which act gets chosen, it’s likely that it’ll be some time before we hear their song. Cornald Maas told us that the Dutch broadcaster “made a mistake” by releasing Trijntje’s “Walk Along” too early in December 2014. AVRO TROS waited longer to release “Slow Down” for the 2016 contest…and made it to the final, unlike Trinjtje. We get the feeling that it’ll be a similar case this year.

Who do you want to see representing the Netherlands at Eurovision 2017? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

What are the odds for O’G3NE to be selected?

I still would rather that Kensington represent.

What chance is there that they would take a page out of the French playbook (Amir), and go with Dotan?

O’G3NE sisters seem to trust themselves too much when they say that have an idea about how to win. I don’t think anybody in this world knows how to win ESC.
The perfect song and the whole package is only ‘Love, Love, Peace, Peace’ 🙂 🙂

@Alex like I said I’m too for Caro Emerald. But the problem is, this year Kaliopi(FYR Macedonia) had a good voice etc.. but didn’t pass(thanks Dami Im, eh..really..) :/
But I think a jazz-like song es. Liquid Lunch could do well. Her voice is very good for that genre and with the right song she can do it. (At least the finals.) 😀

1) unwise to let so much information out in October, although I for one can’t wait until Dennsh’s ‘Eurovision 2017 Top 1’ gets released
2) og3n3 or o’GEn3 or whatever is too pop for the Netherlands and I don’t think this would benefit them with their reputation for simpler songs ie Oosterhuis/Douwe/Anouk/Common Linnets/3JS/etc.
3) og3ne gives me part Moje 3-esque girl band and part pre-2010 trashy eurovision vibes and neither is good
4) with a good song made to sound more 2016 than 2006, they could do well

All signs indicate that it will be O’g3ne. I have heard only one or two songs but they aren’t too bad, with the right song, who knows? Netherlands, like Italy, Belgium and Australia will win soon. It’s been building since 2013.
I agree with @Pollaski though, it’s a good selection process but the acts that the Netherlands choose have all been well known and well seasoned performers so that also works in their favor, whereas other countries, like my own Ireland, brings an amateur set up, the difference of quality is clear. Best of luck Netherlands.

Slow down, brother! I’m sure they’ll have a good replacement.

Actually, who knows – I just really wanted to use that quote in a sentence!

Not the girl band please, it won’t do well. Maybe later in the future…

Caro Emerald is the best of all and is a strategic choice. She is well known, her sound is distinctive and she can stand out from the rest. I’m curious to know if she would consider Eurovision though. Her last album was released a couple years ago so it’s time for a new album….

Fingers crossed it is CARO!!!

I hope it will be Og3ne. They have it all: – they have good looks; – they know how to work the camera; – they are very professional on stage; – they are lovely in interviews; – singing solo they are more than fine but singing together = amazing; – they have their own singing technique ‘echoing’; – their songs are so-so, but they have enough time to find one great song. You can send an artist with a lot of hits, but thats never a guarantee: remember Trijntje? Anouk? They’re both great artists with some hits, but neither won… Read more »

I don’t think it will be O’GN3E.
Excited about the announcement, as long as it’s only the artist and not the song already.

@Calum
How are O’G3NE gonna get a great song? They don’t write songs, and the strongest Dutch writers and producers are not behind them. I can’t see this happening honestly.

We all pretty much know it’s gonna be O’G3NE, and I’ll be very pleased if it is. I like their styles of music and if they say that they want a song that can win, I’d have absolute faith that they’d get that.

I’m the only one hoping (or even knowing her..)they select Caro Emerald? She has a good voice. I just hope they don’t do like with Trijntje and release the song too early.

I’m hoping for Kensington, small chance though.
Og3ne better have that “winning” song if they get selected and not something cheap like wings to fly…

I want some Tropical House or Dancehall from The Netherlands, and not that dated cheap pop called O’G3NE.

I have high expectations. Hopefully they will keep sending good music 😀

I think it will be O’G3NE. They come out saying they want to represent the Netherlands, and a few weeks later there’s an announcement coming. Not like there was a lot of sweet talking needed to persuade them.

As long as its just the artist and not the actual song itself being released in October, I like this strategy. Hit a popular star, get people excited, then they have five months to come up with a winning song.

Easier said than done, obviously, but best of luck to em!
