Well, this is awkward. Eurovision 2014 runner-up Waylon, who is one of the coaches on The Voice of Holland, just had a very awkward moment. He was less than impressed with one of the auditioning singers, not realising that she had been his singing partner at the 2005 Dutch national final. Ouch!

Almost a decade before Waylon teamed up with Ilsa DeLange, he was duetting with another blonde singer. At the 2005 Dutch national final, Waylon sang with Rachel Kramer on “Leven als een beest” (“Live like a beast”).

Their upbeat soul-pop number didn’t impress audiences and they sadly didn’t make it out of the semi-final.

Flash forward 11 years, and Waylon’s past was coming back to haunt him.

In the first episode of the new series of The Voice of Holland, Waylon was settled into his new coaching role. Unbeknownst to him, his 2005 duet partner was one of the singers lined up to audition.

Rachel Kramer performed the ’80s ballad “We’ve Got Tonight”. The song was originally a duet, and this appears to have confused some coaches, leading them to wonder if perhaps two people were singing — one good, the other not so good.

Waylon was not inspired to hit his button and turn. At the end of the performance, just before he discovered the identity of the singer, he remarked, “I found this audition not good.”

But while Waylon wasn’t impressed with Rachel’s audition, two other coaches were. Singer Guus Meeuwis and rapper Ali B both turned, and Rachel chose Guus as her coach. This means she will be part of the show in weeks to come and will be up against Waylon’s acts.

Meanwhile, fans are looking for signs of an announcement from Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS regarding the Netherlands act for Eurovision 2017. Last month the broadcaster said an announcement would be made in October, and it is rumoured that they have very recently secured the act.

Haha….it’s a bit rude to laugh at it, but hey. What a funny situation, if you can enjoy it that way 🙂 poor girl though!

I must say I would have had no problems with recognizing my own past girlfriends. And I suppose they would recognize me easily too 🙂

The song from 2005 was great btw. Kind of bluesrock. The actual Dutch entry of 2005 was very banal / cliched.
