Rainbow Reykjavik—the gay winter festival held in Reykjavik from January 31 until February 3, 2013—just got a whole lot gayer. That’s because Icelandic Eurovision icons Hera Björk and Paul Oscar will headline a special Eurovision concert in Harpa Concert Hall on Friday, February 1. Other acts will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
For those of you who have been living under a rock, or who suffered temporary memory lapse after Eyjafjallajokull blew its top, Hera Björk placed 19th at Eurovision 2010 with her foot stomper “Je ne sais quoi.” Sister was ROBBED. She got the biggest applause that night by far. Sorry, Lena. Paul Oscar placed 20th at Eurovision 1997 with the song “Minn hinsti dans” (My final dance).
The Rainbow Reykjavik program includes welcome party, a Northern Lights tour, a trip to the Penis Museum (I’m not kidding), and the chance to see Glima — the national sport of folk wrestling. There are also trips to geysers, waterfalls and, of course, the Eurovision concert! Let’s describe the trip as LGBT-ESC-friendly.
