It’s the national selection that launched district-based semi-finals on Monday. And by Friday it will be all wrapped up, and the three winners known. Along with two jury wildcards taken from the remaining semi-finalists, we’ll have the first five finalists of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2020.
They’ll join five yet to be announced pre-qualified acts. One of the final ten will then go on to sing for Denmark at Eurovision 2020. But that’s an issue for another day!
Danes have been voting for their favourites all week. Since you could only vote for an act if you lived in their respective district, international viewers weren’t able to partake.
However, they’ve still been able to have their say. We asked our readers to vote for who they think should win each of the three semis. And, after counting 1,648 votes, the results are in!
Poll results: Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2020 — District favourites
‘South District’ Semi-Final
Kenny Duerlund should win with “Forget It All”
The ‘south’ poll was arguably the most closely fought, with all three acts hitting triple digits. However, the winner was ultimately clear cut with Kenny Duerlund and “Forget It All” taking victory with 268 votes or 50.38% of all votes cast.
- Kenny Duerlund – “Forget It All” 50.38% (268 votes)
- Jamie Talbot – “Bye Bye Heaven” 30.45% (162 votes)
- Nick Jones – “2AM” 19.17% (102 votes)
Total Votes: 532
‘East District’ Semi-Final
BEN & TAN should win with “YES”
BEN & TAN are the only duo in this stage of the competition. And perhaps that’s working to their advantage, because the pair were the most popular act across all three semis. “YES” swept up 307 votes or 53.58% of all votes cast.
SamSara scored 220 votes — the highest of all three poll runners-up. So, we’re taking it that if our readers were also the juries, they’d give her the first wildcard.
- BEN & TAN – “YES” 53.58% (307 votes)
- SamSara – “For You” 38.39% (220 votes)
- Søren Okholm – “Impossible Dreamers” 8.03% (46 votes)
Total Votes: 573
‘North District’ Semi-Final
Sander Sanchez should win with “SCREENS”
He has the lowest winning margin of all three poll toppers, but Sander Sanchez is the undisputed ‘north’ poll favourite nonetheless. “SCREENS” accumulated 241 votes or 44.38% of all votes cast.
Given that she has the second-highest vote tally amongst the runners-up, Mielou is the obvious candidate to get the second wildcard from our readers.
- Sander Sanchez – “SCREENS” 44.38% (241 votes)
- Mielou – “We Could Be So Beautiful” 37.94% (206 votes)
- Emil – “Ville ønske jeg havde kendt dig” 17.68% (96 votes)
Total Votes: 543

I so hope that For You gets one of the wildcards, SamSara totally deserves it and the song is damn great
YES is just a YES!
I’m so sad ? That Melodifestivalen won’t make any new stage design for the coming 2 years… They will use the stage of last year but use other themes to make it look a bit different.
Melodifestivalen always came up with grand stages but not anymore…
So you’re saying Swedish NF took inspiration form DMGP ?? This is danification of Melfest !
haha what? where have you read that? They always have a new one every year
In 2004 & 2005 Melodifestivalen also just the same stage with a few changes.
No, Someone asked the question about the stage on Melodifestivalen Instagram . And they replied that they will reveal it soon!
Yes is not anywhere close to as good as For You
EXACTLY!! I hope that For You gets one of the wildcards
I like yes and for you
