Over the weekend she, along with her husband Daði Freyr and their band Gagnamagnið, brought Iceland a fourth place finish at Eurovision with “10 Years”. That’s despite being put in isolation in their hotel following positive Covid tests among their delegation.
But now Árný Fjóla Ásmundsdóttir has tested positive for COVID-19 upon returning from Eurovision.
Árný, who is 24 weeks pregnant, says she is feeling “healthy and happy” now that she’s back at home. She and husband Daði Freyr will remain in isolation during her recovery period.

The keytar player announced the news on Instagram on Monday.
“Ending this Eurovision trip by getting COVID myself. Feeling very healthy and happy to be back in my home country! Let’s continue to be careful for our health and for people around us.”
Indeed, both Árný and Daði appear to be in good health and spirits. The Gagnamagnið frontman also posted on his Instagram story that the pair may film a new music video for Daði’s EP Welcome.

Eurovision 2021 coronavirus guidelines
All artists, press, delegations and fans attending Eurovision 2021 were required to provide a negative coronavirus test before entering Rotterdam Ahoy. Despite organisers making their best effort to keep those in attendance safe, some delegates did test positive during their time in The Netherlands.
As it happens, Árný is the second member of Gagnamagnið to test positive for COVID-19.
Prior to the second semi-final of Eurovision 2021, fellow keytar player Jóhann also contracted the virus. This forced the group into quarantine, resulting in Iceland having to participate using rehearsal footage instead of performing live.
But their remote performance didn’t have a negative impact on the band’s result. Against all odds, Daði og Gagnamagnið qualified from the semi-final and went on to place fourth in the grand final with 378 points.

Hope she gets well soon! Btw, I know representing a country three times is a lot, but I would love to see Dadi and Montaigne again at Eurovision because they really deserve to perform on that stage and feel the love from the audience. Same goes to all participants from 2020 who did not come back in 2021. I usually get attached to the participants, because I watch so many interviews with them etc. in the Eurovision season and I have just realised that I’ve been now following some of them for 2 years! I’m gonna miss them!
I believe Montaigne has said that she might return to Eurovision, but not anytime soon, like not within the next 5 years if I remember her tweet (might have been an insta story actually but not sure) correctly. I agree with that, and she probably needs some time away from the eurovision bubble, and maybe she’ll come back a few years down the line.
Yeah, sure, it’s just my fan fantasy 😉 I wouldn’t be surprised if Montaigne or other artists would not be willing to come back and especially not so fast.
I can see Montaigne wanting to return now that she’s Australia’s Anna Bergendahl and wanting to redeem herself. Dadi I’m less sure because it’ll be hard to beat 4th place.
If Dadi manages to place 4th with a mediocre song like 10 years, he can easily win if he‘s willing to do.
I bet he‘d be the winner last year if there wasn‘t Covid.
