She’s a Maltese singer of Italian origin, known for her big voice and unrivalled poise.
And on Saturday Claudia Faniello brought all those attributes to the table with the release of the music video for “Perdersi” — the Italian-language version of her Eurovision 2017 track “Breathlessly”.
“Hi guys, for those of you who don’t know, I’m also half Italian,” she says at the start of the video. “And this is a surprise for my dad because he doesn’t know that I did it in his language.”
“Perderci”, which literally translates as “Lost” in English, comes from Maurizio Piccoli — the Italian writer behind hits performed by Loredana, Renato Zero, Patty Pravo, Mia Martini, Fiorella Mannoia and Milva.
The new version of the song was released in Italy, Switzerland and Malta on Friday as part of Claudia’s promotional campaign in those markets.
Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Claudia said:
“I chose the Italian language because of my Italian origin. It is a language and culture I feel very close to. Also, my father who I have not seen in a long time, does not know about this, so it is meant to be a very special surprise for him.The lyrics are beautiful, touching, and just like the English version, they encapsulate the powerful emotions we go through in life.”

PERDERSI LYRICS
Ti cercherò
in ogni strada che farò
in ogni bar
in ogni inverno di città
Imparerò da un vecchio addio
a fare il mondo che vorrei
Non voglio no, soffrire, no!
ma quel che sia, che sia per noi
Perdersi
senza il tempo di dire sì
senza chiedersi che amore il tuo sarà
Stringersi
dentro il cuore e poi sciogliersi
dentro la tempesta di un amore mio
dentro il sole del mattino che verrà
perdersi
Ce la farò
Anche se poi sbaglierò
Imparerò da un vecchio addio
a far l’acrobata anch’io
Perdersi
senza il fiato di dire sì
senza chiedersi che amore il tuo sarà
E stringersi
dentro il cuore e poi sciogliersi
dentro la tempesta di un amore mio
dentro il sole del mattino che verrà
perdersi

What a beautiful song. Love both English and Italian versions and this could be the dark horse of the contest. Some people have decided to hate this song because their other favourites did not win, even I did the same in the beginning, but now I have to admit this is just so beautiful. Thank you Claudia Fanielo
I totally agree with you! From the national selection I also prefer unstoppable and kewkba to this and if one of them had won it would have been 2nd and 3rd respectively! But breathlessly was my 3rd in the nf and is my 5th in the esc( i know i am from the few people that have this song in the top 5!). People should just forget what happenned in the nf and concentrate on the eurovision for now cause this song is just amazing and carries pure emotions! Maybe brooke and janice get one day the opportunity to represent… Read more »
I don’t know why, but I like the Italian version much more! Claudia has an extraordinary talent, a wonderful voice. Compliments!
WOW! It is amazing! So emotional and touching song in both versions! She did this one for her dad cause he lives in US and she hasnt seen him for a long period of time! That really made me emotional! It is a pitty that eurofans dont appreciate this entry cause they prefer uptempo songs or ballads with a climax (i dont blame those songs of course there are a lot of them that i love), but this song is just great!
P.S. can someone translate the italian lyrics?
I think some aspects of your comment are really wrong. People don’t prefer ONLY uptempo songs and ballads with a climax. For example dance alone and I feel alive are both uptempo songs but dance alone is a very good song and I feel alive is a very bad song. There are both of the same genre( uptempo)but are they both well appreciated? No! just bacause the one is good and the other is bad. So it’s all matter of personal preferences and the quality of songs and not of music genres.
I’ll be looking for you In every road I’ll gp through In every place In every city winter. I’ll learn from an old farewell To make up the world I would like I don’t wanna be hurt, no! Whatever happens, may it be for both of us. Getting lost Without even saying yes Without asking if your love will be for real Holding each other tight Within our heart and then melting away Within the storm of a love for my own In the morning sun that is about to come Getting lost. I will make it Even if I… Read more »
Cute but where is the article about superior Italian song a.k.a. Verona?
The Italian version of Verona isn’t superior in any way. I can understand Italian and the Italian version of ‘Breathlessly’ is very touching and heart warming ???? The Italian veraion of ‘Verona’ is very simple and almost cheap.
P.S No I am not a hater of ‘Verona’. The English version is in my Top 10 ????
Absolutely a great singer with a lovely voice. Claudia is an overall winner. XxxX
claudia grazie fantastica bellissima un vero gioiello. non mi iporta essere di parte veramente incantevole buoma fortuna ciao ti volio bene
Beautiful, I wish I could vote for her.
Underrated :'(
A very touching version of Claudia’s song. Love both versions. Well done!
Aww… this is so lovely. I love the Italian versions of Breathlessly and Verona. Perdersi has somewhat different lyrics than Breathlessly, but the core meaning is the same.
I like this entry a lot , I don’t understand the hate from the Eurofandom.
Anyway , guys Estonia published an Italian verision too…..
I guess Italian is the new English. I’m ready for Levina’s “Vita Perfetta’.
I don’t think people hate the song, it’s just not enough, you know. But it’s a very decent entry, Malta should be proud.
Perfect Claudia. Love her song.
