Poland’s national selection for Eurovision is often one of the most-talked about on the circuit. And today TVP revealed the 10 artists who will do their best to make that happen again.

The list includes Alicja SzemplińskaThe Voice of Poland winner who had her Eurovision 2020 dream robbed after the show was cancelled due to the pandemic. She’s back with the song “New Home.”

As we’ve seen in recent years, the Polish selection includes a mix of songs that have already been released and songs that will drop soon. A lot of fans have pointed out that half-Polish, half-Bulgarian singer Blanka has already wracked up more than 9 million views for her video of “Solo” — a song about love not panning out as expected.

The mix of available songs is diverse, both musically and thematically. Ahlena‘s “Booty” includes the choice line, “Booty, booty, booty, booty, booty, so fat!” And Maja Hyzy‘s “Never Hide” — an empowering upbeat number — encourages people to overcome perceived weakness. She herself has endured a series of hip and leg surgeries.

At this early stage, which songs appeal the most to you? We’ll update this post as new videos become available.

Ahlena – Booty

Blanka – Solo

Dominik Dudek – Be Good

Felivers – Never Back Down

Maja Hyzy – Never Hide

Jann – Gladiator

Yan Majewski – Champion

Natasza – Lift You Up

Alicja Szemplińska – New Home

Coming soon!

Kuba Szmajkowski – Do the Dance

For Jann, I need to hear it live, production is nice, but it can be Vesna story – not convincing live.
Alicja has amazing voice and is pretty herself.

It’s so sad to see how wiwibloggs are completly not interested in polish national selection. I wonder if we’ll even see any reaction to these songs on yt. As a big fan of you guys I’m dissapointed

When is Alicia due to release her song ? A bit silly not to go with the rest of the entries and not gaining traction with the wider community…

I’m curious about Alicja and Dominik, I think they could be contenders.
So far, Jann is my favorite of this batch, also the only one I like atm.
Btw, what the heck with Ahlena’s Booty? It tried to be sexy but it’s cringe XD

But what about the 4 missing songs? Still not?…
Then so far I like Blanka song but the remix of Solo you can find on youtube is very cool and much better imo, very upbeat, if this remix was chosen she would have been my fav but not unfortunately…. so I would go with Jann.
With Gladiator I got major Billie Eillish vibes, so why not, it could work maybe.
But still hope that Alicja will deliver she deserves to go in Eurovision.

Ok I’ve listened to Dominik song, and a snippet of Felivers and so far I stay with Gladiator but my hopes are really on Alicja.

I just want to say – if I ignore the ridiculous (and honestly hilarious) lyrics of Booty by Ahlena, the actual melody of the song is reaaaally catchy and cool, lol. Anyway, of course, so far my favorite is Jann’s Gladiator and it’d be REALLY HARD to top his song sooo!

Gladiator sounds like something you would hear in Euphoria. I really like it.

Poland has two great choices between uplifting and lovely Be Good, and cool, slick industrial-orchestral Gladiator. I’d be happy with either. I hope that Alicja’s song is strong enough, so that she’d be in the mix for the win.

Sounds a bit like a ‘Snap’ for me but in a good way, very positive and upbeat

I’m not impressed – from all I heard (excluding Kuba until it’ll be clear which song he’ll be singing) I guess Dominik is the best? But even then it’s not that great. My guess is that Jann would give them the best result – the rest sound either too generic or downright like a parody (Booty aka Hello there, fellow kids).

Gladiator is the best piece I heard this year, no competition. If Poland doesn’t choose Jann, it will be wasting a chance to reach a top 5 (or even more).

Oh god, I’m fearing for the songs this year. Feels like we’re heading into the dark ages of Eurovision again like early 2000s. Not one song yet that gives me winner vibes. Apart from Spain honestly. This is sooooo strange just how much countries are failing this year.

I’ve been thinking that too, Europotato. NF after NF they’ve not yet chosen a song I like. But I’m prepared to give them all another chance once all the entries are finalised and we can listen to them altogether.

Out of all the songs, Natasza has the most compelling song. Still far away, what she presented in 2007, but miles better than that mess she presented in 2008.

In my honest opinion, it’s between Jann’s “Gladiator” and whatever Alicia’s gonna come up with. There were some cool artists in the elimination stage that definitely deserve at least a big shoutout or even a place in the main event, like Spleenn (“Frozen Flower”), Lor (“Trafalgar Square”), or Tony Yoru but again, I highly doubt they can compete with the previously mentioned two (altho we don’t know about Tony Yoru since he hasn’t released his submitted song yet, might be really good, but still).

Not gonna waste my time on that but you should probably understand 80% of the song knowing that booty in Polish is “pupa” or “ty?ek” or “dupa” or “dupsko” (from least vulgar to somewhat vulgar). Hope that helps 😉

I can’t believe they’d skip over such a great song. It is abundantly clear that Juli Chan is the genuine winner, but she was cruelly cheated out of the opportunity to compete for Poland. The quality of this song is exceptional, and her singing is simply breathtaking.

Moldova invited the hairdryer song into the final, and now we have Poland with Booty. They should’ve gone for “My Marylin Monroe” if they really wanted to troll the audience.

Gladiator is one of my favourites – among all NFs! Jann is also very charming, very sensual.

Yet, I have some, emm… fears, about the live vocal, the staging, the camera… (and of couse the broadcast.) I am so afraid this amazing piece would be wasted if any part goes wrong. T_T

For what it’s worth, the Eurovision website’s bio for Jann states he’s been singing since he was a kid and has extensive classical vocal training (he’s a counter-tenor, which might mean we’re in for Cezar 2.0. Or a dancier Ochman XD) and even sang with the National Opera when he was only 12!. I think vocally he’ll ace it, it’s mostly up to the visuals.

I can be tolerant towards more graphic language in seduction if the narrative is presenting it as two-sided flert or a secret introverted desire from one party, but the Booty song is giving me a bit of incel vibes.

Would you say it was written by a man or a woman? Would your perception change if you knew?

Colin

Not really. The song loses me when mentioning that “real men” prefer her, while calling other women “b-word” because they are “not as hot”. There’s a bit of mysogyny and a bit of misandry there, whoever’s the primary source is.

I’m usually interested in the product. If it works, it works, no matter if it’s author’s personal experience or not.

I can, however, see an argument for being an additional cringe if the song, aside from being bad on it’s own, is also inauthentic. Still, this feels derogatory for both women and men, so IDK…

Jonas

I agree, it is a horrible song from start to finish and I hope never to hear it again. I just worry that these type of songs carry some “authority” when presented as the mind of a woman. If Snoop Dogg or Dr Dre had written this, I’d call it misogynist etc., but if it was a woman trying to “reclaim” power over her own image, I might think differently. Anyway, yeah, I’m overthinking as usual. I’ll stop now, this song is not worth it.

Colin

Overthinking can sometimes be a blessing, sometimes a curse. I know, cause I do that far more than I’d like to. 🙂 I agree that on occasion, a song that graphically mentions issues which are gender-related can be read differently if written from a POV of the subject or POV of the object of description. This awful song, which indeed doesn’t deserve this much attention, I find to be offensive to both women and men, so that’s why the authorship wouldn’t change my view on it.
