Lithuania kicked off its new pre-selection Eurovizija.LT last week. We saw a tough fight and the first artists qualified to the final. VB Gang and Silvester Belt, whose entry “Luktelk” is seeing great results on Lithuanian music “tops” videos, will return to fight for the ticket to Malmö on February 17.

The second heat featured 8 hopefuls and saw us say goodbye to 6 acts that were eliminated, while only 2 made it to the final, according to a mutual decision from the jury and the public vote. Those acts going to the final are: singer Aistè and Lithuanian folk-rock group Žalvarinis.

The result was determined by both a jury and the public, who each accounted for 50% of the score. Among the jury members were the current LRT Eurovision broadcast commentator Ramūnas Zilnys, songwriter and composer of Lithuanian entry at Eurovision 2018 – Vytautas Bikus, performer Ieva Narkutė, LRT producer Kristupas Naruškevičius and Lithuania’s Eurovision 2018 singer – Ieva Zasimauskaitė.

Well, here’s something to stroke your egos. Lithuania is actually in the top Five of the odds! I’m not joking. You’re number five right now.

Here is the view count of the four finalists as of 1/21/24 (I’m an American, sue me, that’s how we write dates here): Luktelk—211K Kaboom!!!—130K We will rule the world—21K Gaude vejai—20K Now to be fair, Silvester belt and VB gang have an 8 day headstart over the two most recent qualifiers, but I found that Luktelk has more views than the other three qualifiers combined (over 171K)! I also looked up the view count of Monika Linkyte’s pin finale performance of stay from almost a year ago and it’s 510 K. So Belt has racked up two thirds of… Read more »

Quite a weak SF to tbh. Silvester is the frontrunner for me. Hope he is luckier than Ruta Mur who got robbed.

I just wish LRT created a max 3-shows selection (like FdC in Portugal, for example) with decent songs participating, UMK style competition would be even better

Don’t get me wrong, I still watch it, but having one proper song in the field of 8 in a 5 semi-finals format is more or less a torture.

At least technical side of the selection is very very good

I do wish Lithuania wouldn’t have so many songs in their national final. Cut out a lot of the clutter. I think it would’ve been better with 30 songs with six songs per heat.

We need less heats, 20 songs in 2 semi-finals would be the dream, that way we wouldn’t need to watch Aiste clapping her he-e-e-e…

Seriously though, feels like the broadcaster takes 8 to 10 good songs to have a decent final show, and then fills the rest with god knows what. Those heats (semis) do not feel like competition at all, more like a school’s talent show.

That’s the impression I get too. I’ve always viewed this as a quantity over quality selection, where a handful of gems are buried under a lot of muck and you have to sift through them.

I agree. And I’m disappointed. They have been making folk rock for 20 years and could’ve cooked a folk banger like Gate, but still chose to go with their typical outdated style.

Aiste’s qualification (and winning the jury vote) is giving Blanka if I’m honest. Not trying to accuse anyone or make assumptions, but it’s weird at the very least

The thing is Aiste did also great with the televote like how. Is she well known in Lithuania or something?

I’m happy for Zalvarinis (though the live was a bit dissapointing compared to the video), but Aiste… Really? She had one of the weakest vocals of the night wannabe-ABBA. It would be one thing in case it was favoured by the audience, but the jurors giving her maximum is something beyond understandable. Thus, so far, this semi is the weakest one. Oh, and I feel sorry for Thomas G and Paula Urbana to become the victims of this mascquerade.

Well, the top two qualifiers were the top two both the jury and tele, just different order like last week, and again the jury winner won the semifinal. So I wonder if it’s a case of the bigger names pulling far ahead. we’ll see if we get some agreement for the next three heats

Žalvarinis was the best tonight. Aistè was okay I guess, although I don’t understand how the jury gave her 12 points given her very subpar vocals. “Luktelk” remains the song to beat. LRT is doing a good job.

I think LIthuania has made the right picks so far; no outrageous exclusions (though I think Multiks were underrated for a second straight year).

A LOT weaker semi final than last week but let’s be honest, NOONE was gonna beat the two TITANS of Eurovision-ready songs that are Lukvelk and KABOOM! However, with those, it’s already better than Lithuania’s last National Selection and the songs seem stronger overall.

BadWoolfGirl
BadWoolfGirl

I agree, this semi was a dip below, but let’s hope things pick up again. I hope Luktelk still in front runner position as I feel it is right now, and it makes the top three for the super final along with two strong songs as well whatever they will be. my ideal top three will be Sylvester belt, Monika marija and the roop, if the latter two have good songs as well and make it to the final.

Aiste was abysmal. I’ve not heard such terrible voice control in a long time. She will need to do A LOT of homework for the final.

I think between Rock My Body and It Is What It Is, I’m leaning towards the latter for the second qualifying spot. But I could see it going either way (and there are still two songs to go which might push them out).

With only two qualifiers per heat, it is very critical that your first performance is on point to make it to the final. Otherwise you’re out.
