Wiwi: This morning the Buranovskiye Babushki entered Baku’s Crystal Hall Arena wearing sequined bikini tops and doing back-flips. They were dancing so hard I worried their hips might break! Just kidding. As expected, these adorable grannies, whose combined age is around 400, have stayed true to who they are. Their act has changed very little since they stole Russia’s heart at the national final. They’re in the same Udmurtia peasant wear, and they still include one seriously short woman who does not sing, but wanders around somewhat aimlessly. We love them for that. The LED lights—essentially fireworks—convey the idea of celebration as the women sing about preparing for their children’s imminent return from afar. It’s joyous and these women remain a real delight. Well, except for that one slave driver on the left. If you watch the video below, you’ll see that said woman waves the women away and says something at the end of their performance. It looks like Queen Bee is not happy! In any event, good job (grand)mother Russia.

OK, the grannies might be sweet, fluffy, touchy and whatever else. And honestly their intention of making some money to build a church is ADMIRABLE. Still I don’t think they are Eurovision material and I really prefer to see other countries qualify in the final over them. Though GOD does not seem to be with me on this one…
