NDR, Germany’s state broadcaster, has announced seven of the finalists for Unser Song für Dänemark, the German national selection. An eighth contestant will be named following a special contest for ‘young talent.’
The acts listed below aren’t exactly old, but they do include a number of seasoned performers.
Das Gezeichnete Ich. The group has performed as the opening act for the Pet Shop Boys and A-Ha, and they placed fifth at the 2010 Bundesvision Song Contest with the song ‘Du, Es und Ich.’
Madeline Juno. This 18-year-old singer released her first single ‘Error’ in November. She signed with Universal shortly before that, so it looks like she’s got some money honey.
MarieMarie. She may look a bit punk today, but Maria Huber played in a harp band as a child. Her music is rooted in the folk tradition, but has an electro-pop edge.
Oceana. Oceana–probably not her real name–is a German-American pop singer, TV presenter and actress. She has amazing hair. In 2009 her single ‘Cry Cry’ reached number 1 in Russia, Romania, Hungary and Greece, and topped the iTunes charts in France and Spain.
Santiano. Their first two studio albums topped the charts in Germany, and spawned hits like Santiano and Es gibt nur Wasser.
The Baseballs. This rock and roll band, pictured at top, rose to prominence for their 1950s-style covers of songs like “Crazy in Love” and “Umbrella.” The latter climbed the charts in Germany, Spain, Sweden and several other European countries.
Unheilig. This pop-electronica band won the 2010 Bundesvision Song Contest with their song ‘Unter deine flagge.’. Their last two albums have also topped the charts in Germany and Austria.
