When Aram Mp3 was selected as Armenia’s Eurovision 2014 contestant, some of you worried he was too much of a comedian and not enough of a singer. Well last night he mixed humor and music to great effect when he unveiled his cover of Emmelie de Forest’s “Only Teardrops”. Introducing the song he had this to say: “The winner of Eurovision 2013 Emmelie invited me to the Eurovision Song Contest. I’ll be there soon my darling and now I’ll sing your song in Yerevan.”

We approve of the cheeky comments—and his soulful interpretation. It’s loungy, ethnic, tribal, and zen all at once. What do you think of his Only Teardrops cover? Let us know in the comments box below!

I LOVE IT!!!!!! Aram is amazing and I see on him the hope to Armenia for winnning this year., but it is too soon to say, he has an amazing voice and it needs an awesome song, I like the folkloric style of this cover but make no mistake, they need something fresh and original for this year DO NOT WASTE ARAM’S VOICE!!!!!

I really loved it with the different instruments. Made a really great sound! This cover shows what he can really do and that he likes to explore music. Really anticipating his ESC entry :)!

@D: I prefer to believe and judging on this cover performance that Aram knows way better than ethnic cheesy crap like Quele-quele was in 2008. Armenian music like any other type of ethnic music has atmosphere and hypnotizes anyone but not through the “cheesy dance move your hips” sort of way. The true ethic sounds have depth and meaning and require one great vocalist and its instruments to translate that. I hope and believe Aram can do that … but I feel his voice suits a complete different universe outside ethic music. He’s too soulful for that … he needs… Read more »

Am I the only one who noticed the pitch correction/autotune? Based on that, I wouldn’t judge his vocal qualities just yet.

He is creative – I’m sure whatever he sends to Copenhagen, it’ll be good, whether it’s comedic, folky, electro, serious, or whatever.

No one can expect anything from him. From “Just Go On” to “You’re not Alone”, he proves he’s a chameleon.

I love this and I really wish his entry is amazing, I hope the rumours about him competing with “Just go on” are false.

@Charles – Not one of his songs specifically, just an electro dance song in general. I love when Armenia sends ethnic-influenced songs (Jan Jan, Qele Qele)

@D: “some crappy electro” which one really? The cheesy party Shine? Or the stunning with depth “If I tried”? Both radically different … the first a complete cheesy joke coming from him as a comedian … the other one pure perfection embracing his reliable vocalist character .. but both incorporate electro sounds.

This is the side of him I do want to listen to and praise in Eurovision … he does have a great voice and his English even if not always perfect puts rival Azerbaijan to shame and it has soulfulness which I love 🙂 I just pray his song is good enough to correspond to my expectations and his qualities. He can leave the comedian self in the green room … and just be himself onstage.

Nice try, Aram Mp3 😉 But why not covering Celebrate by Daria Kinzer? That would’ve been a challenge!

He’s got a good voice, and good English diction. I have to wonder if this version would have won, representing Armenia. Hmm… 🙂
