Valentina Monetta—the San Marinese siren who cast a spell on us at Eurovision 2012…and Eurovision 2013—has released the Italian-language video for her entry “Maybe”. Called “Forse” in Italian, the video showcases her working her native tongue and we absolutely love it. This woman oozes passion. Or should we say passione?
Valentina proves once again that she knows how to bring the drama. Wearing a white gown, she wanders along the shore and conveys a mix of emotions from isolation to hope. This is a complicated song about failed love and potential redemption. The hope that things might work out is born from the memory of falling in love. As she says: “Maybe it’s a journey in the darkest night/ Maybe we can make it to the morning light/ Maybe this is it this is real and I feel this is right/ Finally right /And maybe/ The courage that I’m finding now/ Remembering and sensing how/ We fell in love.”
In a statement sent to wiwibloggs.com, Valentina’s people said that “even if the song will be peformed in English in Copenhagen, she wants to delight her fans with this Italian version as well.” Well, we are delighted!
You’ll be able to enjoy both versions of the song on Sensibilità, her forthcoming album which drops in early April 2014.
Valentina has updated her official website for the 2014 season. You can learn more about the story of “Maybe” (Forse) and Valentina’s journey to a third straight Eurovision.
The web site explains that Carlo Romeo, Director General of San Marino RTV, “was so disappointed of the totally unexpected Semi-final result that he asked Valentina Monetta right after the Malmö contest if she would perform and try it again for a third time in Denmark 2014.”
Valentina—a contemplative woman—gave it some thought, consulted with her producer Ralph Siegel, and eventually agreed to take part.
Ralph Siegel and lyricist Mauro Balestri worked on seven songs for Valentina. At the same time she wrote and produced nine songs of her own. That’s a whole lot of songs to choose from, y’all.
“After a long research with colleagues, professionals and friends, the clear and final decision was made and the song “Maybe” (Forse) was chosen,” the web site explains. “The song is in English, so everyone in Europe and all over the world can understand the wonderful lyrics by Mauro Balestri. The Italian version is also released, as well as a Dance-version for the Euroclub to enjoy the song in many different ways.”
We cannot wait to dance to it with you in Copenhagen, Valentina!

Valentina is absolutely amazing!! I’m praying hard so she can qualify to the final!!
I think her year was last year & she just missed out. Would be nice if she qualifies though. Not a song I’m overly crazy about, but it’s a nice listen!
has anyone found the italian lyrics?? I can’t find them ¬¬
I love the shades of blue that Valentina wore in the music video. It represents the flag of San Marino. Also the beach ‘marine’ scene might be a references to the ‘Marino’ name. I think its best if she did sing it in English so viewers will remember to vote for San Marino.
In Italian is BEAUTIFUL
I can’t understand why in English… lost the italian magic
The fact that her song was in Italian probably hurt her last year, so I can see why she’s going with English. Televoters can be pretty English-biased in the voting. And her English really isn’t that bad.
I LOVE YOU VALENTINA YOU HAVE TO QUALIFY YES YES YES YES
Don’t think Valentina will qualify, the song’s a big step down from last year, and that song wasn’t even good. Thankfully it’s better than her 2012 song though.
OH MY GORE!!!! can she change the song yet???? please send italian version it is so much more powerful and awesome!!!
The problem is that this is so beautiful it makes English version sound less beautiful! BUT BELLISSSSSSIMO VALENTINA!!
soo lovely!!!!!!!!! good luck 12 point from AZERBAIJAN
