Last night, Romania’s Paula and Ovi closed the second semi-final with a spectacular performance of “Miracle”. Was it better than “Playing With Fire” from four years ago?
The team from wiwibloggs were in the arena and we are now covered in bruises: Fans were dancing so hard to this we got elbowed more than a few times! The Eurovision returnees’ show wasn’t just well received by the live audience. Televoters and juries clearly loved it too, as they predictably pushed “Miracle” into the Grand Final.
Back in 2010, Paula and Ovi brought a glass double piano and literally played with fire. Their amazing performance is still one of the most memorable Eurovision moments in recent history and brought Romania its highest placing yet: third position.
This year there were shades of 2010. They referenced and reinvented their piano and Paula’s high notes were still there. But this looked and sounded entirely different. The duo brought a round piano, a very telegenic hologram-like projection and an 18-second long note that has already smashed Malta’s record of 13 seconds.
We will find out on Saturday whether Paula Seling and Ovi will repeat or top their 2010 placement. Until then, we’re curious to see which performance you prefer.
