From hundreds of acts, Switzerland has narrowed its field of contestants down to just six — and we here at wiwibloggs are on a mission to speak to all of them ahead of the Die Grosse Entscheidungsshow on January 31! First up, we have one of the two acts from French broadcaster RTS: the lovely Licia Chery.

Hi Licia! Would you like to introduce yourself to our readers?

First of all, let me thank you! For your interest, for the exposure and for the time you take for this interview.

So – my name is Licia Chery. I’m 29 years old and I’m from Switzerland. I’ve been singing forever but it only became “pleasant” to my entourage 16 years ago. [Laughs]. It became serious for me about ten years ago when I recorded my first album with my own compositions. I’m a very passionate woman, who loves to sing and to share joy with the audience. I’m addicted to trying to draw a smile on people’s faces!

Your song “Fly” is so upbeat and catchy. What’s your message?

It’s really about trying to flee your troubles for a while. To me, it’s important to know that life is not a fairy tale – but no matter your problems, you always have to take a moment to forget them and think about something that can make you smile. My song is trying to do that. Making you smile. For a while.

You’ve certainly done that with the music video for “Fly” too, which is really fun! Can you tell us a bit more about the video and your experience making it?

Licia Chery fly wiwibloggs interviewI called a few friends, bought a white background and asked them to sing the song! It was really fun and a great experience for them, who had to learn how to deal with a camera, and for me seeing them enjoying so much what they were doing…

To be honest, I wasn’t planning on participating in any kind of contest. When the national radio/television in Switzerland asked me to be part of the ESC, I didn’t know what song to choose and I had no video because my album won’t be out before Spring 2015.

So you’ve had quite a journey, from having no expectations of participating to getting through to the final! What was your reaction when you found out you had qualified?

I screaaaaaaaamed!!!!! I’m not used to contests so it was a little awkward but I’m so happy! And the people who follow me are happy with me.

For someone who isn’t used to contests, you certainly showed some real style and choreography when you performed at the expert check. Will you change it up much for Die Grosse Entscheidungsshow?

Hey, hey! You’re asking for too much here! [Laughter]. It will be a little different because I like to blow people’s mind – but it definitely has to be a surprise!

Well we will wait until the 31st of January for that surprise then! Have you had a chance to listen to the other entries, and do you have any favourites?

Yes, I have and I think they’re all very talented. I don’t really have a favourite – it’s an honour to be in the running with all five of them…

What’s your favourite song at the moment? And what’s your favourite past Eurovision entry?

My favourite song right now would be “All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor! I’d say that my favourite Eurovision entry is “Ne partez pas sans moi” – if I could meet any celebrity, I think it would be Celine Dion. She played a huge part in my decision to become a musician.

How can our readers reach you on social media?

They can reach me on Facebook: Licia Chery, on Twitter: Licia Chery or on Instagram: Licia Chery! See how original I am!

A big thank you to Licia for the interview – but that’s not all! Licia has also sent in a video for all the readers here at wiwibloggs.

Good luck to Licia ahead of Die Grosse Entscheidungsshow on January 31!

Licia is great. She’d make a wonderful representative for Switzerland.

@Branko
Licia was selected through the French-speaking broadcaster RTS, I believe they didn’t have an online platform like SRF, apparently they used other ways to find singers.

why they asked her to take part? I thought it was open selection, so no wonder she made it to the finals… corrupted NF

For me, she is the winner. With a little more work on the vocals, it could be another final for Switzerland!
