It’s a rare event when British newspapers cover Eurovision months before the actual competition. It’s even more rare for them to cover a non-British contestant (unless they are churning butter and flashing boob). But that all changed on January 15, the day after Spain confirmed the rumours that Edurne will sing at Eurovision 2015. For on that morning Spain’s Eurovision 2015 singer got coverage across the British press. Their interest doesn’t reflect an interest in Spanish pop, but rather the fact Edurne’s boyfriend is David De Gea, the goalkeeper for the Manchester United Football Club.

The Daily Mirror invite readers to “Meet David De Gea’s girlfriend Edurne Garcia — who will represent Spain at Eurovision in May.” They describe her as a “busty model” and point out that her beau has a football match less than 24 hours after the Eurovision final, raising the question of whether he will be able to support her in Vienna.
Elsewhere, the Daily Mail quotes the star talking about David’s support of her. “He was very happy for me when I told him, just like my family and friends. The people who love you share in your good news.” Awwww. He also sent out a Tweet saying that Spain “couldn’t have a better contestant.” That’s love, y’all.
“Amanecer” will be released before February 10th. Here in Spain, we’re waiting for it! And I hope that all Europe too.
My friends in school were talking to me about this very thing on Friday in school. I said that David De Gea’s girlfriend is Edurne. So I was glad they brought it up. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
They should make her do a Dutch shlager song while picking up where Poland left off: Milking cows and letting the dancers plow her fields. Vienna’s got holograms this Eurovision, right?
