Saturday 23 May 2015 is set to be a very important date. Not only is it the day of the Eurovision grand final, as y’all already know, it’s also the day when we discover the results of the Marriage Referendum in Ireland. Should the 22 May referendum pass, same-sex couples will be able to marry for the first time. The campaign has been ongoing for several months now, and as the end draws near, those on both the “Yes” and “No” sides are intensifying their efforts.

Many celebrities have already backed the “Yes” campaign and expressed their support for marriage equality, including Hozier, Ellie Goulding, Colin Farrell and The Script. But they’re not the only ones. Several Irish Eurovision and Eurosong stars have taken to social media to support the “Yes” campaign too.

We’ve rounded up a selection below.

Molly Sterling – 2015

Nikki Kavanagh – Eurosong 2015 and 2011

Ryan Dolan – 2013

Dustin the Turkey – 2008

Donal Skehan – Eurosong 2008

Brian Kennedy – 2006

Fionnuala Sherry of Secret Garden – Norway 1995

Linda Martin – 1992 and 1984

Could Ireland be celebrating on the double? A victory at Eurovision and marriage equality? Only time will tell. For now both sides are “Playing With Numbers” – every vote counts! Information on how to register to vote can be found HERE (the deadline is 5 May) and more details on the referendum HERE

Sadly (or maybe not), I’ll be in Vienna, and I can’t vote as a result. I am getting married next year (to a woman) who’s a divorcee. The church tells me that I can’t get married in a church, but who are they to tell me what to do. Despite what the No camp are saying, having gay marriage legalised will never make me want to marry a man and likewise, having it remain illegal won’t make gay people marry the opposite gender. The argument of children without a mother or a father being neglected is an insult to all… Read more »

Marriage is an institution that is overwhelmingly shaped all over the world by religions. If the Catholic Church accepts same sex marriages they will happen. I cannot believe they do not have a very strong influence in this matter.

This ESC / “gay thing” mix is so silly!

And what a stupid comment buy Only Gay….Irony I hope!!

Lots of ESC fans are actually straight! Many women too!

I like gay people, but I hate such stupid generalizing…not good for anything, and certainly not for the contest!

I’d be surprised if it doesn’t make it through. Technically though Molly can’t vote, she’s still under eighteen :P. Also Mario, that name made me Lol.
