Last week Slovenia’s state broadcaster RTVSLO confirmed details of its national final Evrovizijska Melodija 2016. Today it has announced they are now accepting song submissions until midnight on 21 December.

Composers can send up to two songs using the online form (in Slovenian). And unlike last year’s submission process, RTVSLO has opened the door to both foreign artists and composers. However, the broadcaster has announced rules that if the composer is foreign, then the performer must be a Slovenian citizen and vice versa. Full details can be found here (in Slovenian).

The usual Eurovision rules apply and all participants must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the Eurovision Song Contest (May 10). RTVSLO also reserves the right to invite composers and/or performers themselves.

Same as last year, EMA 2016 will comprise of just one show split into two rounds, and up to a maximum of 12 finalists will be competing on the night. After all the songs have been performed, a jury panel will select the two songs that will advance to the superfinal. Then the two superfinalists perform their songs one more time before the televoting public decide the winner.

One of them just might end up being Omar Naber with Take Me Far if he doesn’t make it any further in the Swiss selection.
