If Santa is flying over Portugal, he might just crash his sled! That’s because Susana Guerra — the Portuguese pop starlet Eurovision fans know as Suzy — is sizzling on the latest issue of R magazine. R, which is distributed inside the Record newspaper, is a sports mag that focuses primarily on soccer. We have a feeling that the men of Portugal will put down their equipment the moment they see Suzy’s high fashion spread. In this exclusive interview, Suzy tells us about the shoot, her foray into modelling and her love of horses.
Suzy! You are giving us LIFE with this Christmas cover and spread. Why all the horses?
When we talked about the photo shoot, they asked me what kind of sports I did or I do. I said that one of my passions is horses. When I was finishing my last year at university, I was a product manager for a vet company and we represented a Spanish company that had products for horses. So during my lunch time, my clients allowed me to ride on the horses. That’s one of my passions. I thought, “Why don’t we do a kind of Amazon photo shoot?” The photo shoot was supposed to be sexy and sensual. Well, I never did something like this before because I’m a singer not a model. But I thought, “Why not? I’m going to take that chance.”
And we are so glad you did. How did you end up on that farm?
I was the one who actually chose it. That’s Quinta and the farm belongs to a friend of mine from that time [at university], 2002 or 2003. I contacted him because it’s beautiful and he still has horses. When I arrived to the photo shoot scene I realized that it would be a country-western photo shoot.
Why did R want you for the Christmas cover?
They wanted something related to Christmas and I sang the very famous Christmas song “Nesta Noite Branca” (This White Night). It still plays everywhere on the radio and I hear it when I’m out shopping. They wanted the Christmas cover with me and I said sure.
