Latvia’s search for Aminata’s successor continued tonight with the second and last heat of Supernova 2016. The remaining 10 participants all performed their entries before facing the televoting public and international viewers. As ever the Riga Beaver continued to entertain us during the ad breaks with a game of pictionary, movie charades, a beavercise workout and as it was Valentine’s Day, shared his love with one lucky lady.

After all the votes had been counted and verified, Markus Riva and MyRadiantU qualified as the top two on tonight’s show. They were joined by Marta Ritova and Samanta Tina after they were selected by the juries. Congratulations!

Markus Riva – “I Can”

MyRadiantU – “We Will Be Stars”

Marta Ritova – “Not From This World”

Samanta Tina – “The Love Is Forever”

Supernova 2016 Heat Two eliminated acts

  • Crow Mother – “Demons”
  • DVINES – “Set It On Fire”
  • Iluta Alsberga – “On Hold”
  • Madara Gregere – “You And I”
  • Martinš Ruskis – “Still Holding Stars”
  • Miks Dukurs – “Paradise”

Next week is the semi-final of Supernova 2016, where the eight acts from the heats will sing it out for one of four places in the final.

@MGR Are you from Latvia? I am and I would honestly be ashamed if Markus would be representing my country with “I can” this year. He is good person (saw his interviews) and performer (saw him last year on Supernova, but his song this year is terrible! His performance is dull and boring. He is standing in the middle of the stage in the suit from 80’s without even a single sparkle in his eyes. What he is singing? And most importantly to whom? He needs to be passionate about his own song to make audience engage with his performance.… Read more »

Wow, Samanta Tina is even worse than last week.
I’m not a big fan of any of these qualifiers.
Justs. All the way.

You can’t always deny everything. “Heartbeat” is raw. Good entry must be tight, accurate, polished. This is the whole truth. This is the correct reflection.

To be reasonable, you have to look in general, instead of exaggerated plunge into details.

At the beginning it is that people look at something in general and that’s why they see right. Later they begin to delve into the details and they start to wander and err. It’s not like that?

My top for the semifinals:
1. “We are the light” – Ivo
2. “We will be stars” – MyRadiantU
3. “Heartbeat” – Justs
4-8. The remaining

If we undermine the most basic issues, we can conclude that nothing exists in reality.

Latvia is very small country and winner in this country does not have to succeed in ESC.

@MGR That means that most commentators here and voters are unhealthy. The unhealthy people will be also those who will vote for the winner. Remember that! ????

MGR

No, no. Here, it is not worth to think about. Markus Riva is clearly better for every healthy person. Find someone healthy and show him both of these performances. He will say for sure, that Markus Riva is clearly better. No need to make an effort, because Eurovision is for millions of people, not only for “experts”.

Justs for the win!

I think that here do not have to strain mentally. Justs is weak, dull and boring for for every healthy person. Markus Riva has clearly better, more interesting song.

If Latva doesn’t choose JUSTS for Stockholm I will be very hungry.

This is the second year in a row that I can’t understand the hype around Markus. Live he is shockingly poor vocally, particularly in the verses. No doubt in my mind, Justs to Stockholm.

Happy for MyRadiantU. Not so happy about Dvines and Miks Dukurs who may have better chances internationally.

It has to be Justs

@samlv actually the income from public voting is low. The cost of the show is a lot bigger than they get from voting.

@Adam I fully agree. Justs’ song can be a huge hit in Stockholm. Markus could win the Latvian final (doubt it, since his song isnt as strong, especially compared to his song last year)

My ranking:
1. Samanta Tina
2-8. Who cares it’s not Samanta Tina

I’m actually happy with Markus’ performance, hearing him live is better than the studio. But Justs’ song is still waaaaayyy better and needs to win, but I guess technically if Markus’ song wins I wouldn’t be too disappointed. The only thing is, Justs can win it all in Stockholm, while Markus can possibly hit the left side.

The only thing I can’t understand is what’s the point of making Semi-final for eight songs? I thought next week we will have our winner, but no – final is on 28th, so why? Only thing I can imagine is money from public voting. :-/

I did like DVINES a lot. Jury’s choice did not quite make sense. Jury is there for a reason. And it is more than letting through the ones by televote.

Miks Dukurs is a better singer than Riva. But its all about man-boobs, I suppose.

@Anonymous come to see how UK is choosing their Eurovision song in London on February 26th. There surely will be some people your age. Or try browsing official Eurovision FB page, you might randomly find some people. Good luck!

DVINES!! I’M SO MAD! That old jury asses, what the f*** were they thinking when choosing Samanta, the worst song of 20.
On the other hand, Dvines doesnt need this eurovision balagan, they are better, they have their own style and I’m sure they will get further than that sh** a** Samanta with her dumb, cheap, russian- like songs and botox lips. Dvines are amazing – they wrote their song, they designed their costumes and directed and produced their music video. Talented, beautiful girls, Samanta have only 50% of first statement and 10% of second.

You obviously have so many deep sexy thoughts about Riva that it makes us the rest hate it. Really. Enough with him favorizing.

This 2nd heat was underwhelming.
Anyone think LTV purposely setting up for Justs to win?
All other acts arent even clost to Justs/Aminata,

Justs to win!

I feel kinda bad for all contestants who think they could actually win the golden ticket to Stockholm. Justs has already won and there’s nothing that can change it.

Agree with todays results, but ohh my God – Samata Tina is through with the most horrendous song I’ve ever heard! I was praying that the juries will accept their mistake and include Samanta to the semi-final with “We live for love”, but nope – she is through with that nightmare. :-/
