Eurovision fans have been craving for Adele to compete at Eurovision for years, and at her recent Amsterdam concert the British superstar revealed she’s a fan of the show — with a soft spot for Malta’s entries.
During a break between songs, the “Hello” singer was chatting with her audience and asked one fan where they were from. After learning that the fan was from Malta, Adele kindly exclaimed, “You’ve come from Malta! You lot always do really good in the Eurovision, don’t you?”
Adele asked the audience if they’d also watched Eurovision 2016, and gave some praise for Jamala’s song “1944”, saying “Oh my God, I loved that winning song as well.”
News of Adele’s words of praise has been well received back on the islands, being covered by Malta’s major media outlets.
Malta Eurovision fans, including Adele, will now get to enjoy the melodies of Malta’s Eurovision songs this summer, as PBS and the Malta Community Chest Fund will stage the Malta Song in Concert on July 14. This one-off event will see all the Maltese Eurovision entrants come together on one stage at the historic Valletta Waterfront. That’s a summer delight indeed!
She might as well sing Chiara Siracusa’s flawless entries, I can see why she stans for Malta!
Oh, please. The problem isn’t Adele. When it’s for Eurovision BBC don’t put much work in it(TF1 too). (Actually is not only for ESC – even for other things they do things like idiots. For example, when they wiped a lot of programs and films. Today a lot of, let’s say Doctor Who episodes with the first doctors are gone and defunct. Or series like A for Andromeda have now only 1-2 episodes. But that is not fault of BBC – a lot of broadcaster doed that at the time.) Even if they send let’s say Paul McCartney(or more good… Read more »
In my opinion Adele is overrated. I don`t understand Adele`s phenomen. Today soul isn`t popular. People don`t like this genre because it`s so specifical.
“I know Sergey is not as big as Adele.
But which country is as big as UK and US nowadays in music industry?”
Yes. This is the whole point. UK doesn’t send their biggest acts, because they can’t. Those acts are too big for Eurovision.
That’s not one of UK’s problems, by the way. The BBC’s incompetent staging could knock ANYBODY back to the lower right of the scoreboard. ANYBODY. Just imagine how stupid Dami Im would’ve looked if the BBC had staged her number.
She said “the Euro-vision” like the Americans
@Nicky91
Thank you so much. Respect to you too 🙂
She doesn’t need to represent the UK. Instead she could write the song entry!!
@The Brighest Falling Star
Respect to you my friend, and i would wish you got more respect from others here on wiwibloggs 🙂
Even if Adele entered Eurovision, they would saddle her with a song that sounds as if the lyrics have been written by a vocabulary-challenged five year old.
@Charles
I know Sergey is not as big as Adele.
But which country is as big as UK and US nowadays in music industry?
I admire Adele, she is very talent, but would she be that famous if she born in other country?
What I want to say is, when other countries send their best singer,
UK simply don’ t.
@Lianne: She’s a brit … that somehow and sadly says a lot of such shading possibility, after all the whole UK loves to bash Eurovision for reasons beyond humanity’s understanding. My mum used to say “if you don’t have anything nice to say, say nothing” … yet the UK seem to enjoy the other way around …
@ESC84: Comparing Adele to Sergey? Really? Like comparing strawberries to … a bowl of rotten tomatoes … There is a difference between being worldwide known and being … a singer known outside of Russia because of Eurovision … still two complete different universes.
If she wants to do ESC. She “can” do it. 2 weeks of schedule is not an excuse, Sergey this year also had tight schedule, and he managed. Surely she don’ t have to win Eurovision for recognition. However, UK’ s problem is that they don’ t try to do their best, to be more specific, they don’ t try to do a above average song at all after 2000 (except 2009 my time) It is very understandable that UK always on the right-side scoreboard. If there is semi final for Big 5, UK will be on the right side… Read more »
“Then again, the singers are not the major problem with the UK, it’s more the song that they choose and the poor effort they put in it” It’s all three. PLUS the BBC’s own cluelessness as to how an entry should be presented and promoted, AND the way the BBC ignores and/or insults their artists after the contest is over, AND their shoddy selection processes (especially that amateurish NF this year), AND the general lousy attitude of the Woganized UK public. UK has SEVERAL terminal problems with their Eurovision efforts, and they’ll stay stuck in the lower right unless they… Read more »
why do i have a feeling that Adele was actually shading eurovision?
@Kinuyo
Well no one knew Jade but she managed to score 5th with “My Time” back in 2009.
It’s the song that needs to stand out ….. But for the right reason.
Tho I have to admit I really think that “You’re not alone” was actually a decent entry but It just didn’t stand out.
Poland was the best
she is great!
Big stars like Adele will never do Eurovision, however the UK still has a lot where to choose from. Then again, the singers are not the major problem with the UK, it’s more the song that they choose and the poor effort they put in it, considering the huge production potential they can offer. Even Molly in 2014, even though was a good singer with a decent song, the overall production of the song and the stage presentation left much to be desired.
“they always do well”….lol Adele, let’s not go overboard 🙂
@Kinuyo
I think they would do great because she is very famous, just like Anouk did in 2013 for The Netherlands. But of course it depends on the song too.
If Adele entered for UK would they still do badly I wonder???
That’s amazing! One more reason to love Adele.
