It might be four months since Jamala won Eurovision 2016 with her emotional song “1944”, but she’s just got around to making a music video for it. The new music video is due to be released on Thursday 22nd September, but Jamala is teasing fans with a preview clip from the video.
Jamala can be seen standing in a tunnel of light, similar to the beginning of her Eurovision staging. Compared to her Stockholm wardrobe, Jamala’s look is much simpler. Her hair is loosely pulled back at the top, and she’s wearing a plain beige top with a crimson skirt.
But perhaps there’s a practical reason for this simple attire. In a dramatic cut, Jamala falls forward in the tunnel and lands on the grassy ground of what appears to be a battlefield, all smoke and chaos. We also get a glimpse of mysterious twirly smoky shapes.
Whatever’s going on, we’re sure it won’t be a literal depiction of the events of 1944.
Jamala’s late video for “1944” follows Loreen’s “Euphoria” video, which wasn’t released until two months after her 2012 Eurovision win. Måns Zelmerlöw only released a lyric video for “Heroes”, while Conchita was the most recent winner to release a full music video of her song before Eurovision.
When Jamala is not busy making music videos, she has been getting glam at London Fashion Week. She’s been sharing pics on her Instagram, with Jamala showing off her Ukraine style at LFW events, and also enjoying the sights from the front of row of an Ashley Isham showing. Oh my!
Stephen Podesta : why bother with a music video, 1944 did not sell then, why now?
now, 2016 Dami concert 38 all sold out.
The fans could not buy tickets……so
Already 2017 jan~mar encore tour (announced 13 September 2016)
Music is not comparable !! But Shall be compared.
A lot of great music competition in the world. Classical music, pop music, etc..
Consumers have the right to be compared. a better Music and a better singer.
Shall be made music is like a sport competition.
but Music is not comparable
Jamala live and Dami im live, should be compared.
@Jr esc nl
Exactly. Chart music = Accessible and generic music. Different and downbeat songs usually don’t do well at the charts.
And that’s true, some people are still bitter she won. But no matter what they say, she remains the winner. Not Lazarev, not anyone else. Jamala from Ukraine.
The dogs bark, but the caravan rolls on. 🙂
I love the teaser. I guess they will release the music video now and re-new the hype for the song?
I’m actually still patiently waiting for Mans’s video for “Heroes”. Would be nice to see how the song is visualized as a proper music video.
Jamala won. Fair and square. But, it would never be liked as much as many others.
Surprised that there are people who still think that artists topping the charts are huge and definite success and nothing else.
Jfc the comments are really dumb af. It’s been delayed for a multitude of reasons one of them for label strategy purposes, another that it’s had re-edits which were finished a couple of weeks ago. Some of the comments about Jamala are so ridiculously paranoid. Get over the fact she won.
I love Jamala! I have been waiting for this for so long! For all of you who say she won for political reasons you could make the same argument for Conchita or Dana International, who both won due to LGBT politics! They both have great voices but did they really have the best songs in their respective years?

JAMALA IS THE QUEEN??
why are people still bitter about her victory like let it go
music video looks great but not as wowing as the stage performance
The teaser looks amazing, can’t wait !
WARNING:
The stupidity of the comments below can drive you crazy.
I love Ukraine, but this is not fair. Not only she won with a political song, but now she wants to delay and capitalise as much as possible.
People are still complaining about the content of ‘1944’ and her victory? Leave it, please.
I’d be more impressed if it was a new song and a video. Isn’t that what sucsessfull artists would do? Release new material?
This just reeks of hostility if i am honest within the Eurovision frame. im completely turned off and also I’m kind of board of the song. It’s had its moment. But maybe the video will help to serve as a reminder of the tragedy which suggests it’s very political and something which the Ukraine will continue to promote.
Couldn’t she choose some other song for some beautiful video? Everything is too clear with this one.
Can’t believe the org. Let a Politically motivated song be in the competition in the first place #smh
@Lianne
My guess is that they put most of their time training, planning, and advertising until Eurovision starts. Music videos does take time to create, so doing the things above would be a better thing to do 😛
@khm
1944 isn’t the kind of song you hear at the Radio in the first place. That’s just because it isn’t the right kind of genre and language… Kinda logical you know
I can’t see the video being that good? It will likely be full of politics that would make the EBU’s toes curl hence the 7 month gap between winning Ukrainian NF and releasing the vid.
Honestly, who gives a damn anymore? “1944” was a chart flop, except for Croatian “Radio Istra”, while “J’ai Cherché” and “If I Were Sorry” can still be listened. And it’s been four months already.
Why do the previous winners release the winning song’s music video so late? I still feel it’s going to be epic though
It looks like it’s going to be epic. Jamalegend better pull thru.
Propaganda machine is working!!!!
For some weird reason, while I love the live version of this song, I’m not a fan of the studio version.
