Will any original semi-finalists be left in Moldova? News comes from TRM today that Boris Covali has withdrawn from O melodie pentru Europa, making him the third act to be replaced. In a short statement, TRM said Boris had asked to withdraw for “personal reasons”.
His replacement will be Liuba Doga, with her song “One Thought Away”. Check out her performance from the auditions below:
Liuba Doga — “One Thought Away” (From 3:32)
Boris has been riding high in second place with our Wiwi Jury, but obviously that was for nothing. It’s not the first time that Boris has caused a change at O melodie pentru Europa, either. In 2014, he controversially withdrew the song “Flying” and replaced with “Perfect Day”.
This time, Boris is removing himself entirely from the contest. There’s no official comment from Boris himself, but obviously if we find out more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
As mentioned, Boris isn’t the first act to leave this year’s selection. After the live auditions, Constantin Cobilean left the contest when his song “Mama” was revealed to have been previously performed.
Not long after, Irina Kit also withdrew after her song was deemed to be too similar to an Akon track. Both acts have been replaced, but it doesn’t look great on Moldova, y’all…
This also unfortunately brings the number of Romanian language songs down to just two. Are you sad to see Boris leave the running and what do you think of Liuba’s song as a replacement? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
