Söngvakeppnin final 2018

12 acts started out in Söngvakeppnin 2018. After two semi-finals, that number has become six. Now, it is almost time for Iceland to choose its representative for Lisbon.

The final of Söngvakeppnin will take place in Laugardalshöllin on this Saturday, March 3. All six acts will perform again, then a top two will be chosen by a 50/50 jury and televote. After the top two have been revealed, they’ll perform again in the superfinal, where the winner will be determined by 100% televote.

In the semi-finals, all acts had to sing in Icelandic, but in the final the songs will be performed in the language intended for the big Eurovision stage. Most of the acts have chosen to change their songs into English, but two — Heimilistónar and Dagur Sigurðsson — have chosen to stick to the Icelandic mother-tongue.

Now, we ask you to vote for your favourite in this years Söngvakeppnin final. You can listen to the songs below and then vote in our poll below. Songs are shown in the running order for the final.

Söngvakeppnin 2018: Final running order

Fókus – “Battleline”

Áttan – “Here For You”

Ari Ólafsson – “Our Choice”

Heimilistónar – “Kúst og fæjó”

Aron Hannes – “Gold Digger”

Dagur Sigurðsson – “Í stormi”

Those are the six acts competing to fly the Icelandic flag in Lisbon. Now, you can vote in our poll. Remember, you can vote for as many of the acts as you like. The only catch is that you can only vote once— so make it count!

Who should win Iceland’s Söngvakeppnin 2018?

With the exception of Í Stormi and Golddigger, this year’s not been Iceland’s year. My favourite is Gold Digger – I liked Aron’s song last year (probably a great deal more than the winner) and it’s the only one I can imagine doing vaguely well in Lisbon.

Just like Finland has ONE JOB in choosing “Monsters” for Saara Aalto, Iceland has ONE JOB — and that’s choosing Ari Olafsson and “Our Choice” — it’s anthemic, and it sounds just as beautiful and resonates in Icelandic as it does in English (though I completely understand the change to English just to make it easier to understand) — None of the other songs really have that unexplainable something that makes you connect to it, but Ari is just so genuine (and he’s adorable, which helps lol) — the only thing, I hope they re-shoot the video, because both the… Read more »

I’m so glad Dagur listened to his supporters and decided to keep his song in Icelandic rather than switching to English as he originally intended

I’m fine with any of these winning except for Attan

(I really wanted Thorir and Gyda to have it, …but Iceland screwed up and booted them out)

I kinda have a soft spot for “Heim” (but not so much for the English version). “Kúst og fæjó” would be a very, very nice choice but I also like “Í stormi” and “Gold Digger”. Iceland has a very strong national final this year.

Don’t see any of these acts in the final. It’s a pity. Iceland was glorious in 2006-2013.

Yeah, with all of these songs, it definitely helps if you can’t understand the lyrics.

Kúst og fæjó! Iceland, please make this daring choice, it’s probably the only one that can make the final at Eurovision.

I really want Iceland to succeed on Eurovision, but this selection is very weak. Since all the songs are unimpressive, I hope they send Dagur to Lisbon, cause his vocals are the best. Or maybe Heimilistónar, because at least it would be nice to see them having fun on Eurovision. And please, no “Gold Digger”, that’s offensively bad.

Weak selection for Iceland this year. I’ve heard the songs a couple of times but still can’t remember them.

So glad “Í stormi” stayed in Icelandic. Probably my favourite song before the semis but being Icelandic makes it more special and powerfull. His voice: amazing! My personal winner.

Otherwise I’d be fine with “Gold Digger”, as a more up beat song.

I know it’s a cheesy song, but why not send Ari Ólafsson? He’s good, y’know. 😉

BECAUSE, honey, his “song” is three minutes background noise and has lyrics that even Bernd Meinunger would not dare write. Nobody is against Ari Ólafsson, the blame clearly lies within his “songwriter”. It’s not even that the song is out-dated, it would be abysmal in any given period of time.

Of course I agree, but when the alternative songs are equally as problematic, why not go with the best singer?

Really nothing. Bad, bad choices. Battleline should win just because of what a car crash it is when the singers are trying to shout over each other.

Colin

I don’t know whether to quote Alen HIT or Lisa Ajax. B-)

Not because I think they are bad, but rather because they are so similar in quality. My lowest rated song here is 6/10, and the highest one 7/10. I think either of the six could do about as much as the next.

Considering much more nail-biting finals from Estonia (Go, La Forza!!!), Poland (verging from solid to utter bottom) and Finland, as well as Andra Chansen, I think I’ll pass on watching this one.

Agree 100%
I don’t understand Iceland at all… I watched the semis and it was one of my favourite of all songs… and a clear one since all the others were meh or just bad…
And I don’t understand how Attan could have qualified :/
Anyway I’d like to have the point of view of someone from Iceland from this…
I don’t think they’ll qualify this year

The only reason Áttan qualified is because they have a huge following on social media, mostly kids ans preteens so yeah… they all voted for them. Fortunately there will be 50/50 jury and televote in the final.

Totally agree! Plus, “Brosa” had the cutest guy in this selection. They have nothing good and still manage to kick out the most decent entry.

Heimilistónar because it will bring a fun atmosphere to the eurovision stage without trying to be something it isn’t. It’s comparable to no prejudice in 2014 and that shockingly made the final.

Gold Digger. It succs so bad but it’s similar to Lie to Me, meaning that they’ll both lose points. Petty choice, I know. 🙂

Gold Digger is more like a mess with a part of What’s the Pressure to make it become more structured, plus he did Mikolas Josef’s moves on the live performance.

He has no loyalty to his own name. 🙂
Plus the song is rather cheesy – we can join together to ease the pain, yeah right. Obviously the songwriter never used social media!
However, I really like Ari Ólafsson’s voice, so maybe send him anyways along with a supply of happy pills for the audience.

I’ve listen to all 6 of them and…unfortunately not a single convincing song. And I don’t mean a winner, but a qualifier. Sorry, Iceland… weak selection, weak songs… Any song from Romania’s selection or from Albania or Moldova would have qualified for Iceland, are all better than these average songs….
