Not long now! Tonight Denmark will crown the winner of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2019 — its national selection for Eurovision.
This year’s contest is a multi-lingual affair. Leonora’s “Love Is Forever” contains some words of French and German, while Bake Off star Jasmin has a few lines in Spanish. As the song-title suggests, Humørekspressen’s “Dronning af baren” will be sung in Danish. Julie and the renowned Greenlandic singer Nina Kreutzmann Jørgensen will include Greenlandic in their gorgeous tune “League Of Light”. The language last featured at DMGP in 1979.
The selection also boasts many songwriters with strong Eurovision links. Tim Schou and Martin Skriver (Denmark 2011 and 2016) helped pen “Hold My Breath”. Meanwhile, Canadian scribe Laurell Barker (Asanda’s “Legends”, Renadia’s “All The Feels” and Zibbz “Stones”) features on the credits for Leeloo’s “That Vibe”. The Swedish-based-Scot John Ballard (Azerbaijan 2013, Russia 2016 and Moldova 2018) is involved with Marie Isabell’s “Dancing with You in My Heart”.
Ahead of all the action Deban and I sat down to react to the songs with the camera turned on. If you’re interested in a particular act, you can skip the act you want by looking at the time stamps below.

If Wiwi would like a copyeditor, I would happily join in and help do this (having been a reader since 2012) 🙂
And now you can add to Laurell Barker’s description “S!sters’ ‘Sister'” 😀
Rasmus winning DMGP would be the best suprise this NF season!
It has to be League of Light. I personally like Rasmus but in terms of a song that could actually do really well at ESC, it has to be League of Light.
Without a shadow of a doubt: League of Light must win Danish Melodi Grand Prix. 🙂
