Second rehearsals at Eurovision 2019 continue with Denmark, Austria and Sweden.

Reactions to second rehearsals at Eurovision 2019: Denmark, Austria and Sweden

Denmark: Leonora with “Love Is Forever”

She was a shining star at her first rehearsal and Leonora improved further during Denmark’s second rehearsal at Eurovision 2019.

The warmth of feeling that was evident in the first rehearsal has been increased.

Her backing dancers join her with friendly gestures and interactions that magnify that feeling. They all wear big smiles and Leonora looks like she’s enjoying herself on stage.

The screens with the clouds are beautiful, the friendly feeling has been dialled up for sixty and the Danes have got a little slice of joy on their hands.

Denmark are, in this reviewer’s opinion, on course for the Grand Final.

Austria: Paenda with Limits

This is stunning.

Having dispensed with the black-and-white effects of the first run Austria has created a compelling performance ready for Eurovision.

Paenda performs amid a twinkly forest of bamboo lights in an otherwise pitch black stage.

Her vocal sounds perfect, she emotes beautifully into the camera and the triangles overhead add juddering light effects that elevate the staging.

Sweden: John Lundvik with “Too Late For Love”

In a change to previous advertising John Lundvik did perform ahead of Austria.

This Swedish production hits the stage like a cannonball. They’ve added even more gold lighting to the darkened staging, which only helps to build the soul and warm feeling Sweden has been in search of.

Undeniably John Lundvik is a charismatic performer and his backing troupe of ladies turbocharge his own vocal firepower.

Are we going to Gothenburg? Possibly. The entry strikes a fine balance between Swedish perfection and the requisite soul to sell a song like “Too Late For Love”.

For once Sweden’s performance does look different to Melodifestivalen and it is so much the better for it.

Where’s the results of yesterday’s polls?

Obviously no surprises with Sweden. Still looking strong. They usually move up in the odds at this time whilst the other countries have some struggles coming to grips with how they should be presenting their song. Austria looking good, too. Her song will stand out but I still think it’ll need a lot of jury help to get through. In a SF with quite a few jury-friendly songs, those points might just not be there. I’m obviously not the intended audience for the Denmark song so anything I have to say about it, wouldn’t be helpful or constructive.

Well not at all. Sweden ususually is high in the odds before the rehearsals. Going down when others become favorites.

Denmark: a snippet with good camerawork! Well, they’re ready to go. Some will think it’s sweet, some will get salty, but they know what they’re doing. Sweden: this one is so well tied that not even this year’s signature unnecessary wide shot managed to disturb. I would prefer with the dark stage, but the golden lights play their part. Sweden will do well again. Austria: we’ve heard so much about the triangles on the stage, Austria made a beautiful use of them. Paenda sounds very good and the staging is a good surprise. Don’t know if she’ll make it, but… Read more »

I have a hard time grasping the charm of the Danish entry, it’s just too childish for me and it looks and sounds exactly like in MGP, with the exception that now 5 people are sitting on the giant chair rather than 3. Does this make things better? I don’t know. For me this still looks and sounds like a clear NQ, but I just don’t like the song, so my judgement might be clouded here. John Lundvik has still a very professional, polished package. I still absolutely adore his backing singers, they are by far the best about this.… Read more »

I’m on your side concerning the Danish entry, but I think there’s an audience for it and I don’t see much of a competition on the cute battlefield besides Ireland, who performs earlier. Maybe Austria can sneak in and get their votes now that we know the staging is so sparkly? It would be a nice surprise.

I’m really not sure. I mean, everyone keeps saying they like it just fine or not so much, but it gets stuck in your head. Does that make you vote for it? I doubt it. But perhaps there is a sort of charm that we are both immune to, PM likes it, so there’s got to be something. I just don’t hear it, no matter how hard I try. 🙁

There’s a moment I really like (and I believe they kept) when the dancers come walking/dancing with the stairs over their shoulders. It reminds me of the kind of things I used to watch on TV when I was a kid. So maybe this is more a sensorial thing and our “problem” is that we’re rationalizing too much about it. It’s funny, because some people love it, but I also read comments about Leonora looking creppy and I don’t know how anybody would feel that. She’s adorable.

I do very much hope that Paenda qualifies, since I am from Germany I can vote for her. Wiwibloggs is swaying with the Danish song and fear it is in direct competition for the 10th place to qualify.

I had my reservations about my home entry this entry (Austria) but it might just pull this off now and qualify: we just need the planets to align and some people to vote for it – the juries will love this but our battle is always trying to win over the televoters.

I am over the moon for Austria’s staging #proud.

They created another magic moment. This staging is amazing, I am so happy. I was sucked in for the 40 seconds of the rehearsal clip. I hope it can brainwash the viewer for 3 minutes and make them forget the silly performances that come before and after.

Seeing Austria’s staging and turns out they’re hiding SOMETHING! And I keep on smiling because of it!

i like sweden’s song but it’s being overrated in the odds once again. there’s nothin special bout it to justify a podium position, let alone a victory.

Markus

I also think it’s way overrated, only because it’s Sweden’s entry. John seems to be a nice and charismatic guy, but the song itself sounds quite flat and repetitive to me.

And they had some technical issues on the 1st rehearsal so it normally should look even more amazing that it has been previewed and reported.

Sweden as winner of this semi final is OK. But please let them not win the whole thing. Netherlands has not won since 1975 and I would love to see them win as they deserve it. Italy or Malta would be nice winners too (can’t wait to see how Italy and Spain will come across tonight). Australia and Russia will both be top 5 and have chances to win. I won’t mind too much if they win but will be much more happy with others. I hope Denmark will make it as the song kind of sticks to your mind…… Read more »

Rigged. The betting odds companies just want to make money by pushing the fools to bet on Sweden. He stands zero chances beating Sergey.

Sergey and Russia should be happy for a place In top 12. Much worse than his song In the past.

Funny things happen with bookies now and then: last year Norway was 2nd favourite to win by the time the 2nd Semi Final was going to air and look where it ended up.

Norway’s song was absolutely garbage. Sweden should do better.

No they’re not
Sweden had their first rehearsal after Austria, and it was expected it would be the same for the second one but it wasn’t
And on Thursday Sweden will perform in 8th place and Austria in 9th, just as the running order says.

And Björkman has nothing to do with the starting order this time!

I hope Sweden gets as much attention as deserved, far from the jury favoritism towards this country or the televoting reject it suffered last year. Is it too late for love is top-10 material (at least I believe it personally), so this time the two sides should vote Sweden more evenly.
