Swedish broadcaster SVT has revealed that former Alcazar singer Lina Hedlund, jazz/pop singer Linnea Henriksson and comedian David Sundin will host Melodifestivalen 2020. The surprise announcement was made via an Instagram video this morning.

Lina Hedlund

Lina Hedlund is no stranger to Melodifestivalen, having competed six times previously. She made her Mello debut as a duo with her sister Hanna but is perhaps best known for her three entries as part of the disco trio Alcazar. Lina has also competed solo and made it to the grand final earlier this year with her song “Victorious”.

Linnea Henriksson

Linnea Henriksson came to fame in 2010 when she placed fourth on Swedish Idol. She’s since gone on to establish a pop career and also sings in the jazz band Prylf. In 2018 she performed the Melfest semi-final three interval act, “Mamma är lik sin mamma”. Last year Linna was one of the acts on SĂĽ mycket bättre — where established artists cover each other’s songs.

David Sundin

David Sundin is a comedian, television host and comedy writer. He has previously been involved as the scriptwriter for Melodifestivalen 2015 and 2016.

While David Lindgren hosted solo in 2018, the 2020 team seems to be taking a cue from the foursome who hosted in 2019. Melfest legend Sarah Dawn Finer, Eurovision star Eric Saade and comedians Kodjo Akolor and Marika Carlsson hosted earlier this year and proved popular with audiences.

This is the earliest the hosts have been announced in recent years. The announcement has previously been made in late September or October, however in 2018, Melfest fans had to wait until November to have David Lindgren confirmed as the solo host.

The dates and locations of the Melodifestivalen 2020 tour were announced last week. The tour will begin in LinkĂśping on 1 September, before travelling to Gothenburg, LuleĂĽ, MalmĂś, Eskilstuna for the andra chansen round, and finally Friends Arena in Stockholm for the grand final on 7 March.

Last month, P4 Nästa finalist Amanda Aasa was confirmed as the first act for Melodifestivalen 2020, after winning the wildcard entry.

Entries for Melodifestivalen 2020 are now open and will close in just under two weeks time, on September 15. It is expected that the competing acts for 2020 will be announced sometime in November.

What do you think of the Melodifestivalen 2020 hosts? Who would you like to see competing in Melfest? Share your thoughts below!

Wonderful! I am already planning to visit MalmĂś in February to attend Semi Final 4 and I think it’ll be amazing 😀 This would be my first national final ever to see live in the studio/arena. Even in Germany I have never attended our NF, but Sweden will be the first now 😀 You could think about this haha 😀

Lina Hedlund is the right person to explain how voting for jurors works.

Aside of the hosts, I wonder why Melfest still persists on using the Friends Arena.

Economic reasons. The producers would rather have something smaller, but SVT persists.

What’s wrong with using Friends Arena?

For acoustic and proportional reasons, I think Globen is better. Eventhough Friends Arena is newer, it’s so huge.

It’s a liveshow in sweden so no. You can download the svt play app and follow it in swedish though. It’s easy to follow so you’ll understand most of what’s happening.

This is the woman who didn’t know how to cast her jury votes in Eurovision 2019, right? I hope the other hosts are more victorious with the points. As an Austrian, let me say that Austria should have been last. Dead last. While it was definitely Lina’s fault, I am amazed that nobody checked this. I mean, come on, tastes are different, but how could anyone have believed that she’d rank Austria first? I don’t know the jury performance, but if it was anything like in the live show, nobody could seriously have believed that.

And that matters with her hosting skills how?

As long as she doesn’t send the last placed songs in the semi to Globen she will be fine.

The jury performance of Paenda was even worse. Very shaky voice. Painful. She couldn’t deliver this delicate song at all.

I’m happy to admit I was wrong whenever it’s true. The people who instantly dismissed it were right. What an awful act we had. I wanted to turn off my iPad when she was performing, it was physically painful to watch that. Everything was just so bad.

Paenda was amazing, cause the song was emotional and the lyrics were awesome ^^ Love from your German neighbour and thanks to Lina 😀
