The organising team of Eurovision 2020 have revealed another decision about next May’s contest. The Euroclub will come to life inside Maassilo. According to the website rijnmond.nl, the Alderman of Rotterdam Said Kasmi announced the decision during a press lunch.

From 8 to 16 May, the city of Rotterdam will expand the Eurovision joy from the Ahoy Arena to the centre of the city. One of these places is the Euroclub, where accredited fans, press, and delegations will let their hair down as they meet, party and celebrate.

Maassilo is a perfect place for the Euroclub, as it’s located right in the heart of Rotterdam. It lies on the riverside of the Nieuwe Maas, within striking distance to one of the most iconic sites in Rotterdam, the Erasmusbrug. The centre of the contest, the Rotterdam Ahoy, is roughly two kilometres away. This allows a direct trip from the arena to the Eurclub in about ten minutes with public transport.

The first taste of Eurovision could be felt during Duncan Laurence’s concert in October at Maassilo, as part of his still ongoing tour.

More info about the venue

Maassilo was built in 1906 as one of the biggest granaries in Europe. It has been enlarged multiple times since then and had an almost 60 metre-high tower added at some point. The complex was used for almost 90 years until 2003 when it was bought and modernised as an event location. It opened in May 2004 and has become one of the hottest venues in Rotterdam.

The building commands a total of 15 halls, many of which seem suitable to accommodate Euroclub. The biggest one is the so-called “Grote Zaal”, which has space for up to 2,000 guests. Big pillars have been removed to make the most of its 1100 square metres. The other halls can host around 1,000 people, including the unique looking basement with flywheels and pumps.

The Euroclub is only one among many venues where the city of Rotterdam is going to organize events. The Eurovision Village, where local and international artists perform, will be announced at a later date.

Maassilo is definitely NOT in the heart of Rotterdam. It’s Rotterdam-South.

Sorry to say, but the information that Maassilo is in the citycentre is wrong. It’s in the southern part of Rotterdam, just like Ahoy.. As an inhabitant of Rotterdam I’ m waiting for the Eurovillage and Eurocafe to come to the dynamic city centre.

I think you’re forced to be a member of a fanclub to get there unfortunately.

By metro it is just a few minutes! 3 to be precise 😉
From Zuidplein, where Ahoy is located, to Maashaven.
