Didrik Solli-Tangen won Melodi Grand Prix 2010 and represented Norway in Oslo, while his younger brother Emil participated in Norway’s Eurovision preselection in 2013. For Melodi Grand Prix 2020, Didrik & Emil are going to climb the stage together with “Out of Air”. Our reporter Anne Vik met the brothers at the first artist reveal for MGP in Oslo.

Hailing from the southern Norwegian region of Telemark, both brothers specialise in classical music, having attended the famous Baratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo. Didrik joked:

“We have a yearly concert in Porsgrunn and now we decided to take it a step up!”

Participating in the song contest together instead of seperately was long on each of their minds, the brothers revealed. They told us:

“We have thought about participating in MGP on both sides, each of us. And we talked about it together. So now we figured: why not together?”

Didrik & Emil “Out of Air” Melodi Grand Prix 2020 interview

Since their last MGP participation, the brothers feel they have matured both personally and musically as well as having gained a lot of experience from performing locally. Didrik said:

“I think that we have done it one time before, it’s a good experience to have and we’ll just use that. But I think now that it is a total different song and that we are at totally different places in our lives.”

Emil agreed.

“I think the biggest difference is that now we are ten years older and with that experience that you have earned over the last ten years, it’s going to feel a bit more grounded.”

Didrik & Emil will first perform their Eurovision 2020 effort “Out of Air” during the second semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix 2020 in Eastern Norway. The duo is one of the five automatic qualifiers for the final in Oslo.

If I had a brother, and he was as foyn as Emil, he could look at me any way he wants to… because Lord knows I’ll be looking right back (and front too! Lol). Just kidding (Aside: No, I’m not). Lol 🙂

Related or not. This is a look of pure love and admiration. Sweet. Who wouldn’t want to be looked at like that. 🙂
