Italy Maneskin Eurovision 2021 First Rehearsal

Trusted Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino is reporting that the Eurovision 2022 host city will be revealed on Monday, August 30.

Curiously, that’s the same date that the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS revealed Rotterdam as the host city of Eurovision 2020. AVROTROS also revealed the planned dates for Eurovision 2020 at the same time as the host city announcement, as did Israeli broadcaster KAN when confirming Tel Aviv as host city in 2019 (though a bit later — on September 13 of that year).

Eurovision 2022 host city to be announced on Monday

The newspaper, which is based in candidate city Bologna, made waves on Tuesday when it reported that only five cities remain in the race: Bologna, Milan, Pesaro, Rimini and Torino. In Wednesday’s new report, it re-iterated that this was based on the cities’ respective venues or, as they put it, “the engineering criteria necessary to set up a latest generation TV show.”

That the newspaper now claims to know the date of the host city announcement suggests they have a direct line to someone involved in the decision-making process. At least one of our Twitter followers has wondered if the paper being based in Bologna is significant. We’ll let the soothsayers guess for now and will wait for something official!

Why isn’t Rome on the reported Eurovision host city shortlist?

The newspaper’s latest report also touches on the striking fact — to foreigners, anyway — that Rome is not on the reported shortlist. The paper cites the words of Rome’s mayor Virginia Raggi, who, besides sharing a last name with Måneskin band member Thomas, suggested the ancient city was most deserving of the honour of hosting.

Following the band’s win she’d tweeted: “Måneskin’s was a fantastic victory. Rome is proud of its guys. Next year Italy will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Rome is the perfect stage to relaunch the contest.”

Il Resto del Carlino suggests it all came down to infrastructure and potential venues. It wrote:

“The chronic absence of adequate structures in the capital must have played a decisive role in the choices of the European Broadcasting Union and Rai, organizers of the event, and now the event looks elsewhere with Bologna, Turin and Milan, which, thanks to their infrastructure, have a slight advantage over the other two suitors [Pesaro and Rimini].

The criteria of the EBU are becoming too high, SO HIGH that in a few years no arena’s will be found that meet the criteria. They should lower down their criteria and expectations a bit. With a smaller arena you can still create an amazing tv show

In the end of the Monthly-Update video of August:
“See you in September with more news on the 2022 Host City race”
So I think the host city will be announced in September

Bologna would be a real plot twist. But the whole Turin campaign indicates that it’ll be Torino 2022

As far as I know, there are also rumours saying that it’s going to be Bologna.

Imagine Senhit being announced as one of the hosts 😀

I think she doesn’t have a past as a hostess but it would be sick! Why not, she could be a new Måns, being in ESC in 3 consecutive editions
